OBD Scan Tools? Air Bag Service message

My 2007 GMC Sierra is proudly displaying an "Air Bag Service" message.

 

Since I'm doing 1000x other items to my truck, I figured it may be a good time to get a scan tool. Our dealers around here are crooks and I'd rather diagnose/repair the vehicle myself if I can. I do have some automotive background (I built/raced Miatas a lifetime ago - not very hard though).

 

I'm currently looking at the OBDLink MX WiFi with ScanXL Professional and ScanXL Pro GM Add-On to be used with my laptop running Windows 7 Pro. At $350 or so, it's expensive but it can read air bag codes and cycle the ABS pump for bleeding brakes. I had an Equus 3160 but it wasn't as intuitive as this setup would be (IMHO).. Recommendations?

 

Whatever it is, it must be useful with both my 2007 GMC as well as my 2013 Honda.

I have autoenginuity with the GM package and it works amazingly, has tons of bi directional controls, does ABS, PCM, BCM, C codes, and all other onboard systems. Not wireless though, but that's fine.

Wireless is non-issue for me.. My laptop is a rather huge 17" system and I don't intend to use a tablet/smartphone. It would be nice to play with on a road trip (with my iOS device) but not if functionality is compromised.

 

The Autoenginuity setup offers codes for Honda (which the ODBLink lacked) and USB is fast enough while still allowing me to attach to the home Wifi network. Thanks for the recommendation - that setup with both GM and Honda add-ons sounds right.

 

I'd have to wait on the Honda add-on as both plus scan tool total over $700! Might as well buy the ProLine bundle for $1200.. Sheesh.

I am looking for a proper scanner to get the codes that are responsible for the "service airbag" light. Good old AutoZone's scan tool only pulls generic codes. Aside from work requiring a lift/air tools, I should be able to handle most everything else with a high-quality scan tool.. (so I hope)

What costs have you looked at , ? ,, a tech 2 is approx $1200 , that is way to expensive for a veh owner for personal use IMO

I have like 500 invested in mine, but everyone I know drives GM around here so I made all that money back quickly in repairing other people's vehicles. Google is as good as alldata in my opinion, and I have used both, so you're set with the Autoenginuity and google combo!!
