Good Grief - That Seat Weighs a TON

I finally had a chance to stop by a GMC dealer and check out the YXL.

Of course all the ones they had were lift-gates, so I couldn't decide about that versus the barn doors.

What did amaze me was the weight of the third seat, and having to climb in to fold and tumble it. Does anyone actually ever take the thing out, or do folks just leave it folded up when needing more cargo room.

Is there a way to fold/tumble without having to climb into the back? Doesn't seem like a real fun task if the bumper area was dirty. And I know the wife won't go for it.

In our Suburban, it isn't too bad. Don't get me wrong, it's heavy, but it has wheels you can roll it out on. You do have to get in the back to get it out, at least on our '01. It's well balanced. What I mean is that you can just grab the handle and one end doesn't go down or up. Once I lift mine out of the back, I just sit it down and roll it to wherever I'm going to keep it. I have the barn doors. If I had it to over again I would choose lift gate, without a doubt. Just my opinion.

On our 03 suburban there is three steps to get the third seat out. 1. fold seat down, 2. lift bottom of seat and 3. pull seat out. Yes you have to get inside to do all of it. I thought it was kind of a pain myself but what do you do.

You guys just need to eat some more wheaties! I take mine in and out all the time and lift it whereever I need to move it. They are well balanced as stated. A lot lighter than seats that were in my mom's Caravan growing up! :banghead:

Waht you need is some 16 year old kid to do for you

Had a 88 Astro Van LT talk about heavy seats. When we first got in 88 no problem taking out the seats, when we sold in 98 I though I was going have a heat attack everything I lift it out.
