Programmers and onstar?

Hi Folks:

 

Newbie here... finally bought a GM been with Ford for some time.

 

Question on tunners. I just bought a 2004 avalanche 5.3l with onstar. My local perf shop says the following: Superchips and Hypertech will not work with Onstar properly? Then to boot Diablo perf shop in town says the Diablo Predator tunner will not work for tire size or axle ratio adjustments?

 

Help me out here please. Do any or all of the tunners work properly with onstar equiped trucks and do the three mentioned adjust for wheel size and axle ratio well? Which programmer is the best one. I know local guys with Duramax's love the Diablo predator for hp and wheel / axle size adjustments.

I had a Diablo Prdator on my last truck (2000 with a 5.3). I did not have Onstar on that truck, but I remember in the instructions that there was something special that you had to do if you had Onstar. You could however change the tire size. Hope that helps some.

for hypertech you just have to pull our the fuse for OnStar will you load the Hypertech program. then you pop it back in and go. Fairly simple.

Yes,Just pull the proper fuse before you program it,however when you are done and you reinstall the fuse push the On-Star button and tell the advisor that you just wanted to check and make sure that everything was OK with the On-Star system.(Thats what I did with mine and its a good thing because they had my location messed up at first until they rebooted the system)

I have had no problems whatsoever since then.

Why do you need to pull the fuse at all? What does the programmer do to "bother" Onstar system?

I have a Predator with my 01 Tahoe with OnStar. I think Granetelli Motorsports is just covering their butts - supposedly if OnStar is activated (even if they are calling *in* for some reason) during programming that could cause problems. This version of Predator does let me adjust for tire size. The coolest thing about the Predator is that they emailed a custom tune for free.
