TheftLock RDS Radios 2004 Colorado

I'm getting ready to install a 12-disc JVC mp3 changer, and have been reading up on this whole TheftLock system. I have a 2004 Chevy Colorado, the GM radio is one with a cd player and is RDS capable. The dealership wants to charge 40-50 bucks if the radio is locked. I've read on the internet that there are two types, one that will lock if the VIN number is different than the original, and one that will need reset every time the battery dies. The dealership had no clue which kind mine was, and niether do I. I want to be prepared before i start the installation, and i really dont want to pay 50 dollars for the dealership to give me the code that should be mine in the first place. Any help???

Thanks for the help, I'll keep you posted. While were on the topic of cd changer installation, does any one know easiest way to remove the dash so i can route the wires behind it to the display controller for the cd changer? it looks like the dash around the head unit is separate from the rest of the dash, but i dont see any screw holes underneath like my old s-10. let me know if you got anything.
