And the cat came back

I apologize for the length.. :)

Well after the big move it was the pets turn to get adjusted to the area.. Our 8 month old kitten had no problem... He is in and out on a daily basis now but we have our 16 year old cat which is the closest thing to a family member that any cat could be... So at that age the mind is basically nearing its end so we were on the verge of putting him down when he got this major burst of energy that showed in someway that he wanted to live... So we brought him here and we set him off on his little journey...

Well all of a sudden 4 days go by and he isnt anywhere to be found...  So we went around asking our neighbours if they have seen him around.. They said no but they warned us that our area is bad for coyotes so any of there cats arent let out after it starts to get dark..  So we figured the worst because at 16 he isnt the quickest cat on the block...

So i was sitting watching t.v. 20 min ago and i hear this very faint meow.. now i looked out the windown and seen nothing.. Then i heard it again comming closer and i could see these two eyes walking closer to the window.. To my suprise 5 days later our cat came back.. He was a little thinner than usual but thats a little expected but were glad to have him back..

Cat person or not, ANY animal you've had that long becomes a member of the family...glad he came back...now, for the record, we have moved 6 times in the past 17 years and have had 2 different cats.  EVERY time we moved the cat(s) did exactly what yours did...I think they either go exploring or are just PO'd at you for moving and want to get you back.  They are so smart that I really believe its the latter........do you have any kids?  thats the worst part of the missing cat adventures....crawling the new neighborhood for hours looking for the cat while they cry!!!!

Glad you got your pu--y back. (j/k)

Seriously though, glad you got him back.  I'm sure he's glad to not have to work for his food either.

Man, our older cat does the same **** thing everytime my parents go away for more than 2 weeks!  Since my schedule is more busy than theirs, I'm rarely home and only to sleep and do some homework or talk with you jokers!  LOL.  But anyway, he'll disapear for about a day and a half to 2 days.  Which is weird because he's always there at 3:00 on the dot to get fed!  What a weird creature a cat is!

I got a 13 year old cat(Jethro). Up until a little over a month ago all he did was eat and sleep. But, I brought home a 3 month old kitten(Hemi). Now, if you can catch either of them your lucky. Its like a race at Daytona 24-7 around here. But, when it time to eat. Jethro will walk straight to his dish with Hemi jumping all over him. Its kind of funny when you got a 12lbs 13 year old cat being jumped by a 5lbs 4 month old kitten.

I feel your pain.  On 8/28 I put our cat outside with our three dogs.  Well at night she was gone.  (the wife was mad)  Well last week my son was in the hospital all week till sat. so we weren't home.  I finally put signs up last night and I was sitting watching TV and I hear a cat outside. I open the door and there she is.  The wife was much happier and now I am off the hook.

Had a really smart cat when I was growing up, sometimes too smart for his own good.

One of the times we moved he managed to sneak out of the new house after the first couple of days.  Two weeks later an friend of mine from the old house calls and says he thinks he saw my cat hanging around the old house.  So we immediately go over there and start calling for him.  20 minutes later he comes strolling across the street and we take him home, quite a bit skinnier than usual but happy to see us.

He had cross THREE 4+ lane busy streets plus numerous side streets to get back to the old house, it was amazing that he was in one piece, and I will never understand how animals can find their way back like that, but I'm glad he did!

Rest in Peace, Blackie

Cats are amazing animals.  We have tons of them around our farm, they come and go as they please.  We may not see one for several months, then it will show up still well fed and cared for.  I guess they just know the places to go.

I'll still take a dog anyday though.

Well with all the tradegy that has come across today i have to add just a little more... :(

At 2:00 pm today i had to put my cat down..  It came down to it where he had no control of his bodily functions, he was dizzy, he lost 10 - 12 pounds *which is a lot for a cat -- he went from about 18 pounds to maybe 9 or 8*, plus what finalized the decision for me was i went to pet him and with my hand gently on him he fell over and needed help to get up.. I know his love was keeping him going.. but his mind was gone..

Really upsetting to know that he's not downstairs sleeping somewhere.. but i ll get over it eventually.  I just wish i could have been there.. I couldnt get the time off work so my mom was there when he went..

Thanks to all who replied!

Sorry to hear that you lost him Steve. :(

My Mom is real big on cats. I've grown up on cats. But you wouldn't know it by hanging around w/ me. I'll pet my cat but I won't pick her up. I'm afraid she'll scratch me, plus, she's a bit on the heavy side. We've had her for 8-10 years.

I like dogs too, quiet ones that don't bark, or bite.
