First new non GM product

I had to do something about the money that I'm spending on gas. Just going back and forth to work, I spend between $200-$250 in gas per month. GM doesn't have a small car with any STYLE. I was forced to go Mopar and get a Cruiser. It's a neat little ride, suprisingly big inside for my 6-2 frame.

I'm sorry GM, but you have some catching up to do.

I'll give reports on the Cruiser as it goes. So far I have driven it a total of 5 miles - from the dealer to my house.

Congrats on the new vehicle.

I've never warmed up to the looks of the PT Cruiser, but some people like it.

So, instead of spending $250 on gas each month, you're now going to spend $175 on gas and tack on a $450 car payment.

Nope - $300 payment and probably $50 on gas.

Meanwhile my gashog brute of a truck is paid for and sits in the yard until I need it. Less money on maintenance, tires, etc.

You don't have to justify your PT to me...I bought my truck for $11,500 to replace my $800 car that got 24mpg and burned a little oil.

Not, calling down your decision but if the PT's getting 24mpg and its going to cost $50 to do the same driving distance as the pick-up that costs $250 does that mean your truck is getting <5mpg?

It doesn't sound like you bought the PT for "economic" reasons.

The truck gets 13, the cruiser is advertised at 29.

Hey, Supadave, go piss on someone else's parade.

The Cruiser has pretty decent power, too. I can pass at will, even easier than the truck, and yesterday coming home, I took the interstate just for kidcks and that little car had no problem keeping up with a group doing 95mph.

Kickin' stereo, too.

Same reason I kept my car when I bought my truck. Gas prices suck right now. I drive my car 85% of the time. I usually only drive my truck on weekends or on trips. Yea it's a payment, but isn't that what the good ole USA is about. Debt.

Yep,Same reason I got my "beater",It gets 25 MPG,Truck gets around 16.

Plus the other reason being the truck stays clean and I keep a lot of miles off of it!

Its been nice the last few winters not having to drive my truck in all that salt and slush.

Drove to Biloxi, MS yesterday to do a little gambling. Four adults and gear ride very comfortably in the Cruiser. Gear included two coolers of beer. Still had enough power to cruise effortlessly at 80-85 moh.

Mileage update soon.

My truck is my first new non-Ford product. I got a pretty good deal on it, what with the GM employee discount (not from GM's latest sales gimick, my father in law works for GM). I'm paying less to BUY this truck, than I would have to LEASE either an F150 or Ram. The gas mileage isn't too bad either. I just have a regular cab 2WD w/ the 5.3, not the big 4x4's with all the bells and whistles that most people here have. The Ford and Dodge trucks are overweight pigs, my truck is lighter. I see no reason for unnecessary excess weight. I know people say these 5.3's are impressive performers..I won't argue with them, yet...but let's just say I sure hope this thing perks up as it gets miles on it. 2500 so far and it's lacking in the balls department.

We had a PT Cruiser in addition to the Sierra 2500HD and will admit it did have a lot of room inside and rode pretty nice, easy to park etc. We traded it in on a new Jeep Liberty tho as the PT did have some problems in the deeper snow.

The one we had was electric blue with silver flames on it (from the factory). It looked pretty cool and had a moonroof it it. It also had a big enough back to hold both a Mastiff and an Irish Wolfhound (at the sametime) for a ride to the vets.

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
