Radio comes on problem

1998 Suburban 4wd 350. I have a problem with my radio coming on after the keys have been removed and we exit the vehicle. Most of the time we come out to the truck and we find the radio on. If I turn the windshield wiper control to the on position the radio will go off. But when I turn the wiper to the off position the radio comes back on. It is an intermittent fault we usually see when it is either cold or mild weather. I don't remember it doing it in hot weather. Just wondering if someone has seen this before.

Thanks for any help

Hmmm, never heard of that one. I would suspect possibly enough voltage ls leaking through the ignition switch to power the radio. When you turn the wipers on the level of current can't be maintained through the faulty connection in the ignition switch and the radio goes off... until you turn off the wipers, at which point enough voltage is once again available to power the radio.

I don't recall if the '98 had RAP (retained accessory power). That is, if you turn the key off, the radio, windows, etc., will still have power until you open a door. Do you have that?

No it doesn't have Rap. So maybe the ignition switch is going bad? than ks for the reply.

Had a similar problem in my friend's 98 K1500.

My first suspect was the ignition switch.

In his the radio would stay on, but if you hit the power window switch it would go off, then come back on after a few seconds.

Turned out the harness in the driver's door was damaged and a bunch of the wires were touching. The constant power for the door locks was feeding back thru the speaker wires and powering the radio.

You have the same problem, but in the wiper circuit. The thing is the wiper circuit shouldn't be powered with the key out.

Check the radio plug to see if it is getting a positeve feed thru the speaker wires. Then check your wiper switch plug for an incorrect reading.
