Coolant Leaking, Any Ideas

I drive a 2001 Chevy Silverado HD, it has 211,000 miles. Just recently I noticed that my Low Coolant light came on, so I added coolant to the fill line, then the next day I had to do the same cuz the light came on again. I now have noticed that I am leaking coolant, there are puddles underneath the truck anytime I park it for a period of time. As far as I can tell it is leaking and collecting in the skid plate under the tranny. My question is, could the leak be coming from the water pump or somewhere else? I am not that mechanically inclined so I am just curious before I take it in to get looked at. thanks!

I have a 2002 with 260000km had the exact problem this week ....it was the water pump. Damage to the wallet not to bad and shop time was 1.5 hrs pump $119,lower belt $25.You will get a refund for the old core so total should be@$250.You should be able to see the wet on the water pump if you crawl underneath(passenger side front and look up).Good luck.

Cool man, that sounds good to me. I did look up there today and did notice alot of coolant around the water pump. I figured that was the source of the leak but wanted to make sure it couldn't be something else. Also, when you replace the water pump do you have to replace the thermostat as well?

If you have possible h2o pump failure,1st check the weep holes located at the 6 or 12 o'oclock position on the pump,if its wet than ..yes..I would bet on a bad pump.Having to replace the thermo because of a pump bad, no, but having a cheap piece of mind by replacing this item which is neglected,won't do anything but help the cooling system,(get the most correct stat for youre application )
