hi, ive got a fullsized 03 sierra pick up truck. when i put it into 4wd i can go straight and their doesnt "seem" to be an issue but when i try to turn its all messed up. its kind of like its grinding/ bumping in the front end, but more like a heavy resistance to turn at all... it almost seems like if i cut the wheel too much like it would break something. i might be wrong but it feels like it may not be engaging all the way or something so its not set in 4wd fully. i might be wrong about that. ive only had the truck for about 4 months and have not had the 4wd serviced at all yet. where should i start. thanks. - walter

If you are not on snow, ice, or another soft surface that will allow the wheels to slip, it is going to bind like that. If you are on a hard surface you are killing your TC.

I have a 2004 gmc z71, have had it about three months and had the same problem yesterday. Seemed noisy at low speed going straight. It was very hard to turn even in a muddy field. Sounds like the same problem, havent found any solutions, will pass any info.

ok, thanks guys. oddly enough i have not yet used the 4wd in the snow so your probably spot on. thanks. it just snowed here so i will give that a shot and report back.

also, sometimes when i put it into 4wd it thumps realy hard when engaging... its realy bad though, its almost like im getting rear ended by another vehicle. just a big jolt/ bang noise. any ideas? do i just need to get something greased up or what?

Have the same thing when switching to 4 low. Loud clank, my brothers 03 Z71 does the same thing. Switching to 4 high not near as noisey but you definitely notice it. Don't think it is anything to worry about.
