Got Hp Tuners

I got HP Tuners today, and wanted to share a little info on my first findings of this programmer/scanner tool. The program is so amazing and so intuitive. It has so many features I can't count them all! I bought this program to use in conjuction of a Nelson Tune. I downloaded my stock tune tonight and did some logging for Allen to go along with my stock tune. I did a log just driving around town/ highway driving, so that Allen could get a good idea of the characteristics of my truck; after all every engine is different. Then I did a WOT pull and wow, I can't beleive how insane the TM is on the 6.0. In between shifts the timing advance goes from 23 degrees to -12. The timing literally drops and flatlines just before the shift! I am going to send my log and stock tune off tonight via e-mail to Allen and will hopefully get a quick turnaround on the tune. I wanted to also log to get a before and after of the stock vs. Nelson tune. I will post the results as soon as I get the tune. I have only used the program for a little tonight, so I don't have to much to report on. If you have any questions though go ahead and post and I will try to answer them as best as possible.

Thanks, Josh :banghead:

I bought the Standard version (499 dollars plus shipping). Most people will tell you it's a good idea to cough up the extra money for the Professional interface though. Personally, I bought HPTuners mainly to adjust the TCM so I couldn't justify the extra money. Hopefully I don't regret it, but hey, I can always upgrade :banghead:

Okay, So you guys bought this to go in conjunction with an already tuned PCM. How come? I can understand the use for adjusting the TCM. That would be worth it in itself.

Thanks,

Ray

Because modding is addictive and becomes a hobby. It sucks you in like a big vacuum cleaner. :banghead:

That I can understand. been that route. Just trying to get a few ideas and was wondering why the HP Tuners Software to work in conjunction with an already custom tuned vehicle. Is this for tweaking of your own? Maybe make some adjustments down the road for personal preference?

Bingo!!! And also just to learn and play. The knowledge and experience is fun to learn.

On the 6L80E transmission, the TCM is located inside the transmission housing and is therefore accessible only via the under dash port. So in my case, even though I was able to send my PCM in to get tuned, I was still living the torque management inside the TCM. That's where HPTuners comes in.

I struggled with the HPTuners/EFILive decision. They are both excellent tuning applications IMO. In the end, I chose EFILive because my tuner of choice used it (blackbearperformance) and I could tune both my Denali and my wife's Enclave. EFILive is a few bucks more initially but in the end they are very close IMO.

Sorry its taken a while to get back to this post, but I am now Nelson Tuned!! The truck is honestly another animal! The WOT run I did is so sick. I sent my stock tune to Allen the day I got HP Tuners along with some daily driving logs which helps him figure out the uniqueness of your own engine/transmission. I got back the tune by the end of the day! HP Tuners is a must have with Neslon if you can fork over the cash. He also wanted me to log for a couple of days to see how the engine reacts to the tune, so he could further fine tune the vehicle. The other great thing is if it is something minor you can adjust his tune to your liking. I also bought the standard version too. The professional version was exactly what it means "for the professional", and I am definetly not one of those. Otherwise, HP Tuners is definetly a well thought out system, and using Nelsons Tune or anyones for that matter you just can't go wrong. I have some charts on the TM, but still trying to get them uploaded to this site.

Thanks, Josh :M16:

P.S. Your right VMax; modding becomes an addiction, I swear my truck is a DYSON!!

I have recently purchased an 08 sierra CCSB Z71 5.3l alum. And im looking at getting the HP tuners software, but i have a few questions. DO i need to get another ECM TCM to have incase of can you change it back to stock like with a programmer and im sure that it voids the hell out of the warranty correct. Are the trucks really that much better with a custom tune. I have also just ordered the VARARAM TRIPOWER and will post on the findings when it gets here.
