Cab lights...up on top...what purpose do they serve besides looking good?  Do they just work as additional running lights or do they do something else I'm not aware of???

I don't know for sure, but I always thought they were for trucks that are over a certain size (height and width).  I'm not positive.  I think they look good though.

i assume they have to do with certain classes or regulations, kind of why you only see them on 1 tons (or maybe i just see them on 1 tons unless its aftermarket)

I think all dually's must have the roof marker lights, and the ICC light bar (out back under tailgate) because they are 96" wide.  I do think they really make a truck look good at night, especially when a trailer is hooked to it.

Has to do with width and now some states, CA, will not let you order them on a truck unless it is a duelly. I think 80 inches is the width. If you state is not covered by such meaningless laws then you can order them on a 3/4 ton HD.

Kansas Kid is correct, all dually are required to have the lights by law due to their width.  Any lights found on a SRW truck are there as an add-on.

IMO, only certain trucks look good with cab lights, but hey, thats personal preference, do what you want.

jpshostr - I assume by your comment about "only certain trucks look good with them" you mean the larger trucks (3500+)?

I guess you could say that.  Larger trucks like the three-quarter or one tons with 4WD look OK with them, especially if they are tied in with the running lights on a gooseneck trailer it may be pulling.  I just think the half-ton shortbeds look a little out of place trying to look like the big semis on the road.

Shaners new truck came with the factry ones and it's not a dually.  There are a few 2500 on the local lot that have them too.

I agree that sometimes they look a little out of place when overdone.  But, i have seen some on 1500's that are in scale and look nice.  First thing that comes to mind is that this is project with Tom's name ALLLL over it!.  He could do it so it looks in scale and good.  The lights would have to have a red base with a black gasket though!

LOL.  I like them, but I don't know that they would look good on my truck.  Good idea for the red base though, LOL

What I was meaning was that they are a factory option or owner installed, not required by law.

my dad has ordered them on all of the pickups he has had... they didn't offer them on the 98 half ton... so the dealer installed them for him... he almost got them on the S-10 to but I talked him out of that... I just didn't think they would look good on a smaller truck... I ordered them on my 2500HD too well worth the ? I think... I won't even tell you what the dealer charged my dad to install the ones on the 98 though!!

Since they are scaled to fit the new body style I think they would nice on a Silverado half ton. Problem is GM does not sell a kit you have to buy all parts seperately and that can cost major $$$$$. I know alot of guys at home (Maine) that have them put on just for the look.
