Got to replaced the evap vent value in 2005 Silverado 2 door 4x4. how hard is to do (may do it myself)? Also got a price at a dealership on the part $160.00 and $40.00 for labour (Canadian) is this a good price? I do most of my own maintaince, diff fluids, oil change, transmission fluid and filter. etc. Trying to get away as cheap as possible.

Thanks

To Remove:

Raise and safely support the vehicle.

Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) tube from the canister vent valve.

Disconnect the canister vent valve electrical connector.

Detach the canister vent valve from the vent valve bracket.

To Install:

Install the canister vent valve to the vent valve bracket.

Lower the vehicle.

I also attached a copy of a TSB covering the vent valve.

Hey GM4X4V8.

I have mine ready to install also. Was your vent valve above the tank or behind it? I have these plastic clips holding the hard line and they are over the tank - do you have any tricks for poping those open?

Also, did you put the filter box at the vent hose Y? Did you have to lower the tranny to do that or can you sneak it up there without?

The vent valve was behind the tank, the clips holding the hard line in was diffecult to remove but got it after a while. To unplug from the vent canister was a little tricky you have to push a U clip from the white plug and pull it out from the other side (hopefully that makes sense).

The filter box, I pushed some 5/8" rubber hose through the frame on side of the gas tank and snaked it above the tranny and tired it all down with about 10 plastic clips ties where the tranny vent pops out....

Hope this helps..

Hey , i wish i had this info before i took my silverado to the dealer. My check engine light came on so i took it in. They said it is this vent solinoid, which is exatly what you are talking about. They said its 160 for the part, 90 to hook it up to the computer, and 2 hrs labor, and at 95 bucks an hour. My total was 430 bucks. I was shocked. I am also very handy and do most of my repairs but dont have access to anything that can check engine codes ie check engine light. They did the work and after 2 days the light was on again. They told me they installed the part upside down, and it should be good now. At that point i complained. After talking to the manager for about 45 min they gave me a brake. They reimbursed me the 90 bucks for the computer diagnostics, and they gave me the part at there cost. So the bill went from 430 to 250. Better but not good enough, especially after i saw what the part was and saw how easy it was to install. Dealers are ripoffs.

Thanks guys

Hey any problems with your abs activating at slow speeds. The dealer said the sensors could be dirty. Cleaned them and no change.

Sorry it took so long for the previous reply. Just for your info I installed the vent solinoid and never reset the computer to remove the engine light, a day later the light went off and stayed that way. I like to do this kind of thing myself and if I make a mistake at least I can learn from it. If I got the dealer to do the install it would cost 200.00 + tax.

No problems with ABS on my current chev (05 Silverado with drums on back). My previous silverado a 2000 v6 I had the issues your talking about. I just changed my driving style to compensate for the problem.

    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
    • I gotta say, I'm enjoying your narration. The troubles you've been having are amusing as you describe them. It's good to see that you're finally getting some satisfaction out the old beast though.
