not that i am aware of, but i did do a WOT - reaching around 90+ mph ,, i did get some detonation ,, but WOT is open loop - no input from sensors

dont normally to get a chance to hit high speeds -

well ,, pocket book damage and MPG .. :-))

I filled up with some 94 octane yesterday and it definitely has more power... what I've been doing is trying to drive it the same way I drove before (which means lighter on the throttle so I accelerate at the same speed I did before), and I've seen a significant increase in MPG...

I did drop the hammer a couple times, and seeing the tachometer hitting close to 6k before shifting kinda worried me... that's why I was wondering if anyone had done damage to their trucks with the extreme tune.

Should be alright, V8s are made for revving high rpms. Not sure about the 4.8 but my 5.3 gets up to about 5300 rpms. My Colorado used to do a hair over 6k.

I have efilive and took a look at the economy tune and the rpm limit is set at 6250 instead of the stock 6000 rpm. I havnt looked at the towing or extreme tunes yet.

I have been running my truck in extreme mode with 89 octane and seem to get the same performance as with running with 91. Anyone else tried running anything under 91octane in Extreme Mode?

Hmm... Can you change any of the parameters of the Edge Programs with efilive? Like maybe increasing the time AFM stays in V4 mode in the economy tune? Just curious...

I have efilive and the evolution and yes you can change anything to want to in the edge programs.

That's interesting. Do you have to have efilive to load the program onto the Edge? I.e. If you e-mailed me a modified program, could I load it onto my Edge, or do I need efilive to do so? Where do you get efilive? Do you need any special hardware to run it? Thanks...

No, it cant work like that. The edge cant be loaded with other programs. You would need efilive to load them. you prety much need a laptop to use efilive and i purchased it from justin with blackbearperformance. It retails at $750, but justin throws in a free tune with it.

Okay, so that I understand this correctly, after-all, $750 if a pretty hefty price to pay if it I can't do what I want to do with the Evolution! I understand the need for efilive to load the tune, but will efilive load the tune to the Evolution, or just to the truck's PCM?

Also, I understand the basic efilive program will allow you to tune two different vehicles, can I actually modify/tweak the four existing programs loaded on the Evolution?

I don't want to do much, but sure would like to modify the amount of time it remains in V4 on the economy tune and would like to change the default setting for the tire size for all four tunes (it's a real pain having to reset the Evolution for my after-market tire size every time I change tunes, just to ensure my speedometer is correct!

Or, is this something the folks at Edge might do for me and save me the $750, being as I really couldn't see me changing anything else other than these two things! Thanks for explaining this for me, and sorry if I'm showing my ignorance as to how this all works!

When you buy efilive you can write and edit as many programs you want. However it only comes with 2 licences to actually load the tunes onto trucks. I think each additional is like $100 but is cheaper for each truck of the same type. There isnt any way you can change your edge tunes and load them back onto the programmer. Unless your really big into tweaking I would just keep the evolution like you have now.

Just a quick note:

I put my truck to the extreme setting and went on a long trip. My fuel economy was great, but I had one problem. I was trying to pass a tractor-trailer on a straight stretch, and I found that I had a LOT LESS POWER at the top end than I had with the economy tune or with no tune at all. 150km/h was TOUGH TO HIT for passing with the extreme tune, I nearly ended up in a head on collision.
