  1. I have 3000k on the 5100 Bilstein rear shocks. First impression is that they are firm and very similar to the procomp ones but seem to be more able to adjust the damping better. I have no dought they will perform well Towing. But next time I will get adjustable ones for the halfton ride that I bought the truck for. Coming down from a 3/4 ton.
  2. Sierra Dan, I got the stiens in. First impression is good but will update at 5k.
  3. Sierra Dan, I don't know anything about the front ones. I only purchased rear ones and they had no adjustments. Cheers
  4. Sierra Dan, I thought they did a good job of managing the loads. Maybe a bit stiff empty but I never am so I would have bought them again if not for the premature seal leak. I think the ultimate shock would be adjustable. So I could soften it up for empty and then dial it up for loaded. But I can say they were night and day compared to stock.
  5. Serra Dan I have procomp pro runner.
  6. Red 5, Thanks. I built it in 06 and have been modding it ever since. It pulls well and carries 2 quads too. I haven't found a better solution for the money I got into this so I keep using it.
  7. I will have to check and get back to you.
  8. I changed out the stock ones that came with my truck after the first time I towed my 10k trailer they were not up to the challenge. Now mine is the max trailering max towing version so I got black ones which I am guessing are same as non z71 trucks. I could not at the time get a set of 5100's because I put on a 4" lift out of the gate and they were not available. So I bought a set of procomp's. I installed them and a huge improvement right away! Now with 60000 km on the truck I noticed one is leaking. So I felt that 52000 km was too short of a life for a performance set of shocks. So I am installing a set of 5100's this weekend because they make a set for the 4" lift now. I will report back how they run as towing season is here and I want to get away from all the smoke so I will be doing several trips south to the US and should get a good impression compared to the procomps.
  9. I towed a 71 duster 250 miles a week ago and saw 125 deg f and out side temp was about 28 dec f. Pulling I figure 5500-6000lbs. I am watching the banks testing closely. Very interesting what Gale has discovered so far. The idea of the fluid hitting the squared corners of the diff cover causes more heat and less fluid being carried up and over to lube the pinion and bearings makes sense to me. Fortunately the B&M cover I bought has curves similar to the stock cover and adds strength to the differental itself. The place I installed the temp sensor on the stock cover is above the fluid level stopped and is probably in the coolest fluid area(was the easiest place to install) but it is right in the flow of fluid while running.
  10. I bought this kit to measure the diff temp on my truck. I am going to run it for baseline readings. Later I am going to install an aftermarket cover from B&M. The pod was on line at amazon. I am going to pull my rig to BC and I will now be able to see what is happening back there. And I want to see if the new cover makes a difference.
  11. Hey I want to thank everyone in this post. It answered all my questions that I had!! I am towing alot with my truck. Of the 53k on it 20k is towing 10000 lbs. Been over the continental divide 2 times and over the rockies on various camping trips. I expect it to haul that trailer no matter what the hill or terrain in low range if need be 5k rpm in first gear to climb up and out of a place I should not have been and it did it. Every time it never fails. So the point being, the fluids have been in server service and I thought my fluid history might tell something about the truck and how the stock stuff performs under top load conditions. My last truck was a 06 LBZ banks 6 gun chip. So I am comparing the two trucks all the time. And the 06 was a work truck for 340000 km. very reliable truck never let me down either. My 16 6.2L max trailering\towing 1500 has been through a lot. I rolled it in the forest in feb of 17 and did 35,000$ of damage and insurance fixed it.All body damage on like every side(42 days of labor) no kidding 42 DAYS of labor to fix it. Got it back from that tragedy and carried on like normal towed my big ass trailer all over the place.t The rest of the km the truck is empty. So this is what I found at 30 45 and 50,000KM FRONT DIFF My front diff fluid was white at 45k when I changed it fo the first time. It was not running out of the fill hole because I pulled that first so I am relieved to know it was pattern goo. It felt smooth and smelled ok.I changed it with AMSOIL severe gear 75W-90. I filled it till it came out the fill hole. REAR DIFF I changed my rear at 30k and it looked dark and not at the fill plug level. Didn't smell burnt but I bet it got pretty hot going up some of those hills in Montana and Idaho, and washington. I should have changed it earlier. I Changed it again at 50k and the level was good the color was a little dark like it picked up the rest of the contamination that was in there.Any way good color and it only had 20k on it but 7k were pulling the trailer. I didn't pull the cover either time. I pumped out with a dip tube I put in the fill hole and a pump. I changed it both times with AMSOIL Severe Gear 75w-90. I filled it to the fill hole which is like 2.6l like the spec is maybe a bit more. Zero issues with the diff. Locker works fine. I am considering putting this diff cover on. Any feedback? I ordered a temp gauge too. https://www.tdotperformance.ca/b-m-70502-cast-aluminum-differential-cover-heavy-duty.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjw_IPcBRAjEiwAl44QkUJmdP7S5a_5WZu4NylqABjgXDCxaqK_wsvdkea5o2VrfXDvlzFCbBoC7VsQAvD_BwE Transfer Case Changed at 45k. Came out darker than I would like to see but full and redish. The magnet on the plug had a huge pile of crap on it. Nothing hard or fragment of anything just a big prickly looking pile of what came out from inside of my transfer case. I filled it with AMSOIL ATF Signature Series and short changed it 2 weeks later and there was nothing on the magnet and the oil came out brite red. It's only a couple liters. Peace of mind for me. TRANSMISSION I made my own dip tube just for the trany plug hole to syphon out whatever is no the pan. I got 6.5 liters out.It was darker than I would like and it was due for a change. I did the same thing again 2 weeks later after a few hundred km. I am going to do this every 20k from now on and see what it looks like next time. I noticed a difference in the shifts right away. I didn't expect that. It seems to work better on AMSOIL. If you made it this far. Thank you for reading.
  12. Here are a couple of pics from my travels. first is my 06 dmax with my rig and second is my 16 1500. I was not sure if my 1500 was up to the challenge of my rig but I am here to report that in 2010 I hauled 4000 miles with and average of 11 miles per us gallon. 2017 hauled same rig thousand pounds lighter with my 1500 gas for 4500 miles with and average of 11 miles per us gallon! same mileage. Yes my 06 with the banks 6 gun pulled the hills better but not way better. And I pulled the continental divide both times including the Rockies. I am super impressed with my 1500. pulls like a champ.
