  1. Hyundai does not sell any pickup trucks in the US. That was the whole point of my post. And yes, South Koreans have improved the quality of their cars tremendously in the last decade or so. Hyundai reputation in 2000 was so bad that Honda dealers did not want to take any Hyundais on trade. And the resale value was dismal.

  6. Does this mean it greatly increased the probability of the driver crapping his pants under all driving conditions? Honestly, Ford "Ecoboost" engines are nothing but a marketing scheme. Replacing engine displacement with a turbocharger fails to deliver promised fuel economy. i have read quite a few complaints about lousy mileage figures these engines delivers. I verified this myself. I had a Ford Escape ecoboost rental and it delivered neither power nor fuel economy. A small V6 would have been far better engine in that vehicle. And recommending regular octane gas in a turbo engine is nonsense. You will get neither power nor fuel economy that way.

  8. If they replaced every part on the truck with the same crappy parts that are causing the problem, of course they will not fix anything. The solution is to overhaul the whole manufacturing process and start producing quality parts and assemblies built to proper tolerances. So now you see why there is no simple fix here.

  11. What is common? Questionable parts and assemblies built in China or Mexico to sloppy tolerances and with marginal quality control, super cheap OEM tires, and shoddy assembly quality. Mounted on a super stiff frame that amplifies the combined vibration and wobble effect of all these rotating parts. And for GM to try to fix these trucks is a real operation "Polish the Turd". That is why there is no fix.

  14. I would be happy to buy a 3/4 ton GM truck, but they are not immune to these vibration problems either. And other quality related issues.

  16. Bad seals cause oil leaks, not vibration. Replacing those have nothing to do with your vibration problem. Maybe pinion shaft and its bearings and the ring gear. Quite possibly the preload on the pinion shaft bearings was not correct due to pinion shaft nut being loose.
  17. It could be just the tires in your case. Perfectly normal for tires to require rebalancing after 20k miles.
  18. If I recall correctly, they lowered the maximum acceptable road force variation on the tires from 30 lbs to 15 lbs.

Can we conclude that given the stiff frames and body mounts that GM has designed for these trucks for good handling, one must specify tighter tolerances and precision balancing on many rotating parts in order to keep vibrations to an acceptable level? And this includes high quality hubs, brake rotors, wheel, and tires.
  20. So basically GM has learned the hard way that they cannot build an S class Mercedes with Yugo parts, and Yugo level assembly quality control .
  21. This could be the torque converter locking and unlocking, which results in some RPM fluctuation.
  22. You can make a fully boxed frame less stiff just the same. Using C channel is actually a cheaper way to build a frame.
  23. Stiffer is not always better with truck frames, some degree of frame flexing is actually desirable - maybe they should go back to more flexible C channel (not fully boxed) frames and softer body mounts.
  24. Another approach you could try is more powerful radiator cooling fans, perhaps with a manual control switch. Can you modify the existing bumper and cut some holes out in it, or get an after market bumper with proper cutout for air flow? Is the truck truly overheating, i.e. the computer goes into the limp mode, or does it just register higher on the temp gauge? (Apparently, eliminating those holes in the bumper saved GM $ 1 per truck)
  25. Apparently many still believe that only a few people have this vibration problem with their vehicles and that vast majority of these trucks are trouble free.
