  1. I feel like 20+mpg at a constant 80mph is great and I've never gotten that on previous trucks. Historically, the EPA testing for highway mpg reached a max speed of 60mph and averaged 48mph. I'm not sure if those speeds/testing have changed recently or not. Based on EPA testing conditions my 3.0 is exceeding their figures. ETA- mph
  2. If cost is a significant factor I’d lean towards the 5.3. Purchase price is less, obviously, and dealers have a ton of them on the lot. It will be easier finding exactly what you want and negotiating, in my opinion. I have the 3.0 and absolutely love it. I got it mainly because of the superior MPG. It is super quick and a blessing on highway. Love the 10-speed paired with it. If you’re more of a gas guy and worried about get up why not look at the 6.2? It’s the same price as the 3.0 (granted premium fuel cost difference which maybe is why you ruled it out). It packs a punch so I hear. TLDR: go test drive each and see where your heart rests. The 3.0 is worth it for me but may not be for someone else.
  3. I’m curious how does the factory 2” lift the rear? If it’s just a 2” block couldn’t that be replaced with a 1” block (or removed altogether) so you sit more level? i mean I feel like that would be the easiest solution instead of trying to raise the front even more
  4. How would you feel about that tire on a 1.5” level up front and no block in the rear
  5. This is such a great thread. I’ve read through it multiple times, these trucks just look so good. Based on what you guys are doing I shouldn’t be nervous, but I am. I want to go Icon/Fox 2.5 coil overs set at lowest 1.5” lift setting and no block in the rear. Then add KO2’s in 275/65R20 on the stock oem wheels. The shop suggested 285/60R20 to avoid any rub but I want the taller tire that fills the wheel well more, and don’t want “too” wide. I have stock 275/60R20 Dueler ATs now. They just seem very very close to the mud flaps when turned. I don’t want to remove or trim. Will 1.5” lift do for my needs or will I need to go 2” up front? This is LT Z71 stock Thoughts?
  6. Thanks for the heads up! Now to debate whether I end up going Fox 2.5 or ICON 2.5 ?
  7. This is good stuff guys, thanks for the info. Next question... Does the natural climate make any meaningful impact towards this "issue/problem"? I.e. I live in Houston, TX where it's rarely ever freezing and usually 80-90+ degrees out. Would these short trips become a non-factor? Systems may warm up extremely quickly (and/or not cool down as quickly). Or Be slightly less of a factor than living in cold climate... or have virtually no impact on it being warmed up to the point short trips will still cause this "existential threat" to the engine? Thanks in advance
  8. Can someone share what the “regen” is, what it accomplishes, and how often this should happen? I’m about 2,000 miles in and haven’t noticed it at all. Is there an alert for when it happens?
  9. I was pleasantly surprised by the 75-80mph numbers, good to know those do somewhat hold up. what size Duratracs do you have? I’m looking at adding a level with 275/65R20 which seem to run ~15lbs heavier than stock. Guess I could live with about 25mpg Highway figures at typical speeds but getting up to the 30’s is so incredibly satisfying!! ETA - From an earlier comment... yes I-10 is a very very flat drive. Highest elevation we get is on the overpasses ?
  10. That’s not what I want to hear! I’ve always seen diesel trucks sitting there idling and not turned off at stops some and wondered if the new engines should still do that? I’m curious about why it’s the case that short trips are bad for the engines.
  11. Just got back from a New Orleans -> Houston drive and tried to do a little MPG calculating/estimating. From DIC for as long as I could sustain. Please note this is not scientific, just gives a rough idea in real world driving. Cruise Control set to: 60mph - 32/33mpg 65mph - 29/30mpg 70mph - 25/26mpg 75mph - 22/23mpg 80mph - 20mpg Crew cab 3.0L 4wd Z71 275/60R20 stock Dueler ATs Temp: low 70’s, not very windy, “low” humidity considering the territory ? I plan on trying to fine tune this as accurate as possible to compare once I get leveled and bigger tires : )
  12. Wow, to me this is unacceptable.
  13. This would make sense. I originally wanted the RST but couldn’t find one the exact way I wanted it. LT was the way to go and the chrome bumpers have grown on me a lot. Was going to just replace but I’ll keep the chrome
  14. Chevy’s website is terrible about automatically adding other things or deleting them (I.e. bench to bucket swap). I told the dealership exactly what I wanted and wouldn’t compromise on and they got it shipped over a couple days later. I was pretty impressed. I didn’t care about the “package” per se but said I needed bench, leather, sliding rear window, front outlet etc!
  15. 2020 Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 4x4 - 3.0L Duramax, Z71 package, Texas Edition, Convenience Package II, Safety Package, Leather, Front 40/20/40 bench, Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, 20” Wheels, Black bow tie on front grill and wheel center caps, matte black Chevrolet inlay lettering on tailgate, vin etching on glass MSRP ~$56K+ paid $43.5K
  16. I would say 6.2 wins in towing if you're towing the heavier loads that the 3.0 can't, or are concerned about the heavier loads. I'd say the 3.0 wins in towing if you're towing lighter loads due to its better low-end torque and towing mpg. I would also say at the end of the day you're going to absolutely love either engine and have no regrets with either. But man you're not kidding with the new/unproven motor risk. That kind of stuff always makes me a little nervous!
  17. I couldn’t find this in the search... But I know it’s out there. One thing I would love to add is OEM looking overhead grab handles above each door (front, rear, driver, passenger). Multiple times I’ve had passengers instinctually reach up there Only to find nothing. The grab handles that are in place are great but I’d like to add additional ones up on the ceiling like they’ve had in the past. Anyone do this? How much work would it be? It’s obviously got to be mounted sturdy so people don’t rip it off! cheers.
  18. This is a really really good looking truck. Love the colors, wheels, lift steps, all of it. Well done sir
  19. That trail boss does look pretty good - If you really want the yellow, I say try to add black in there like the trail boss photo you posted. Black grill, bumpers, door handles, side mirrors, etc. The suggestion to get a black trail boss and wrap it in yellow is a great idea too. Re-sale would be much higher and quicker/easier. Plus if the body is black, that would be a great contrast for the parts of the vehicle you didn't get wrapped. Wrap the exterior only, then when you open the door, you see black on the ends, door sills, steps, etc. Don't know if that's how wraps work or not. You should also think about doing your own custom "Transformers"/"Bumblebee" package like they did for the Camaro. That could drum up some interest from folks that see you out.
  20. The only way I would drive that is if I worked for Dewalt and they literally paid me.
  21. I've had mine for 2 weeks now, right at 475 miles on it. Absolutely love this truck, overall. But specifically the 3.0L paired with the 10-speed transmission is the reason I got this truck and I am not disappointed. The torque kicks in early and stays consistent, and the truck shifts gears smoothly. This is my first diesel and I do hear a lot of clicking noises after I park. Like switches clicking on then off - just part of it I guess. only thing out of the ordinary. For me, the engine is the perfect sound too. It purrs like a kitten, is very quiet and smooth. You still know it's a diesel and when you give it some juice it opens up enough to smile but not enough to overpower your ears/radio/conversation/etc. 10/10 would buy again : ) ETA - I have about 75 miles left on the fuel range. DIC is showing about a 19.5 MPG average. So far it's been primarily city and I have been idling a ton just learning about the truck and keeping it running. The little highway miles I have driven I can really tell it shines there. Fully expect mileage to improve when I'm over the "newness" of it all.
  22. Is it fairly common for people to run 275/65/20 with no problems on a 2” level? That would be ideal for me. Although I almost want like 1.5” because I do like a slight rake.
  23. I got the front 40/20/40 front bench and really like the lockable storage under the middle seat but it’s far from a “safe”. Haven’t been able to find one for the new ‘19-‘20 body style - if any of y’all came across one when looking for your console safe, please pass that info on!
  24. New to the site and this is my first post. I must say, there are some FANTASTIC looking trucks in here and your mods are giving me much inspiration! As my name implies, I've got the baby duramax engine so today I ordered: 1. Green and white "DIESEL FUEL ONLY" stickers off eBay to put inside the gas tank door ? 2. AMP Research PowerSteps from 4wheelparts (this weekend is tax free and free shipping)? And to catch up on last week's items: 3. Spray-in bedliner 4. Bakflip Fibermax Tonneau Cover 5. ProClipUSA A/C Vent-mounted iPhone Holder I know #5 sounds uninspiring but it's exactly what I was wanting to do. Partially covers the a/c vent next to the gear shifter (seems to even blow too much on lowest setting). It sits easily in my view between the road and the main information screen + face recognition works like a charm from there. The gear shifter keeps my hand steady when I need to press anything on the phone. And lastly, I velcro'd a charging cord hidden along the dash/console lines to the the USB outlet which lets me charge the phone and use Apple Carplay super easily. Thanks for listening... cheers!
