  1. Hey Brandon, not sure which beach you are going to, but I've been to Carova/Corolla the last couple years in the 4x4 area. Air down on the tires, 20lbs should be fine. It's actually a state law in NC when driving on the beach but I'm not sure how they would ever check you unless you got stuck. Put it in 4H and you'll be fine. The sand up there can range from hard packed at low tide to some really soft stuff. Just keep moving in the softer sand, and like others said don't try to spin your way out if you get stuck, but i doubt you'll have that issue unless you go off the beaten path. Slow and steady wins the race and will help keep your tanny temps in check. Makes for a great nap spot for the pooch too. .. I've done it with the Duratracs as well as the Michelin LTX and both performed just fine.
  2. I just get the AC Delco brand off Rock Auto along with the PF66 filters. Even with their shipping charges, still cheaper than anywhere else
  3. You can probably sell them. I did the same with the Duratracs on my AT4. Went with the same tire as you (good choice) and got $100 a piece for the used ones on Craigslist. They had about 9K on them and went fast.
  4. Let your insurance worry about that. You pay good money for an insurance policy so that you can simply call them, have them pay you without having to try and prove what happened. Once they pay you, they (like you) want the responsible party to pay. They'll go after GM if there is evidence that it was a defect, etc. Have them take on the fight, not you.
  5. Yeah, the recent ones. I have yet to see the Mobil ESP X2 locally but haven't been to an auto zone in a while. Just looked up the local store and they do have them. I'll have to keep that in mind if I get in a pinch and run out of my own stock.
  6. Saw this the other day. Looks like there are a few more suppliers getting the DexosD license, but still not available locally or online, other than the AC Delco brand. Usually get mine from Rock Auto - seem to be the cheapest and delivery is quick. 7. Not knowing all the details from OP (his coverage, state where the loss took place, etc.) makes much of this discussion about the other driver kind of moot. If he carries collision, his insurance company will pay him, it's contractual, unless there's something we don't know that would invalidate it, like an intentional act or something unusual. My point about the lawyer is that they don't work for free (unless it's your spouse or someone you are very good friends with :-)). It's either by the hour or as a portion of what they actually recover. And you know what they say about getting blood from a stone, right.
  8. Really? Why? Lawyers only take cases if there's a paycheck in it for them. No money here, unless you pay by the hour.
  9. Yep - rubber mat works great. I got one from Real Truck - I think it's a Dee Zee or something like that. Cheap and easy, no more sliding around.
  10. This is what I did, couldn't be happier. I only tow 2500lbs about 10 times a year so they fit my needs nicely. Quiet, good MPG but pedestrian looking. But to Tyler's point, you should consider your usage so not sure they would fit the bill for your travel trailer.
  11. I set mine at 36. No issues at all and my mileage is much better - but it's a different tire altogether.
  12. RU $4.69 Diesel $5.99 Pittsburgh PA. PA has one of the highest gas taxes in the US and our region is highest in the state. They say it's due to our proximity to suppliers or some crap. C'mon already.
  13. I went with the Michelin Defender LTX. They are basically an all season no frills tire. They look pedestrian but perform very well for what I use my truck for. Quiet with good performance in dry/rain/snow. Not an off-road tire by any stretch.
  14. You'll be fine. I dumped my Duratracs and replaced them with a P rated Michelins that had a higher load rating than the original Duratracs. Discount Tire swapped them out without blinking an eye. I think the Duratracs are rated LT mostly for puncture resistance/toughness and not for load carrying ability. The only thing you'll want to watch is the TPMS. My AT4 door sticker had 41lbs to match the original LT Duratracs. When I went to the P metric tires, they were rated at 35 and I have yet to get a tire pressure warning. I didn't have the TPMS re-calibrated to the new tires and I keep them at 35-36 with no issues.
  15. Dumped my Duratracs after about 9K, just way too annoying for me. Sold them on craigslist which took a bite out of the cost of the replacements. They sure do look good, but much better options out there.
  16. Had mine done last year, replaced the unit and all good so far.
  17. That's likely my next move. It came with the chinese Goodride tires. I went out and checked this morning and found that both tires were overinflated by 10lbs (60lbs on a max PSI of 50). Likely overinflated while it was stored on the dealer's lot and they didn't adjust them before I drove off with it. I'm sure that extra 10lbs didn't help either. Trailer dealer was "checking" with the warranty department and I'm waiting to hear back. Trailer is a new Big Tex 30SA.
  18. Picked up a new 5x10 utility trailer this weekend. Drove it about 100 miles to pick up an ATV. On the way, empty, it towed just fine, no issues. Once I loaded the ATV (about 700lbs) and started to drive home, I experienced some pretty significant vibrations at highway speeds, around 60-65mph. The vibration was variable and would get worse at times and then subside, but significant enough that I could see the front of the truck shake. The trailer was level and I adjusted the load a bit during the ride back to see if it was due to the weight distribution to no avail. Now I've towed other trailers with heavier loads with my truck and they were always smooth as glass, no issues. I'm not thinking it's the truck. When I got home, I raised the trailer to check the wheels and tires and found that both tires had at least 1/8 inch of run out (not round). The rims where good. When I spun the wheels you could visibly see the vertical wobble. I thought it might be flat spots, but after 200 miles those should have resolved themselves. My question is, would a 1/8 to 1/4 inch run out (both tires) cause this type of vibration? The trailer dealer is checking with the manufacturer on next steps, but looking to see if anyone else has experience here. Thanks
  19. 220/221, Whatever it takes. Sorry, couldn't help myself
  20. Yep. Duratracs are mileage killers. I swapped mine out with a non AT P metric tire and saw a noticeable increase in MPGs.
  21. I believe everything I read on the internet, and now I'm so confused.
  22. Man, what a difference. Truck rides like a Cadillac now - smooth and quiet - at least compared to the Duratracs. Even my wife said she couldn't believe how much it improved. They set the tire pressure back to 41 so I lowered to 37 after it cooled down with no warning. I may go a bit closer to 35 after driving it a while and watching the pressures. Best mod so far, at least for me. Happy camper at the moment.
  23. I have an appointment Saturday to have them installed at Discount Tire. I called and confirmed that the P metric recommended PSI is 35. They told me they could re-calibrate the TPMS for me, we'll see.
  24. I agree with you on this one. I'm curious if anyone knows the low pressure threshold of the TPMS. I've read that it is generally 25% below the sticker rating (41 on my truck). If that's the case, that gives me a good 10lbs before it triggers a warning and I won't have to manage it. I went through the owners manual and no mention it. Not really interested in having it re-calibrated.
