    Makes sense, does this go back to the 'every bore' is the same in the blocks and the same piston/ring set for everyone where they are not really matched?

    How much was that setup and does that come from the PCV valve in the valve cover? How much was it? thanks

    Do you got any pics of the oil catch deal? Got a 2009 with almost 39,000 miles on it want to have that AFM turned off. The EPA mandates results in so many problems. Imagine how trouble free a vehicle would be without these forced regulations. Just me thinking the 'buyer' is the one who foots the bill. Can't imagine the cost or maintenance on a v6 turbo in turbo is going to be after 7 years or so. Or if it would even be running...

    I got a 2009 Silverado with 40,000 miles on it, on disabling this AFM mess is there anything else you recommend? On our 2000 Z71 5.3 it is almost 15 years old and just 'works' as designed. I heard something about replacing the lifters on the AFM cylinders or it may cause problems if you disable AFM??? Any input or info on that or is that a old wifes tale?

    Does the new trucks have the ability like a 2014/2015 turn this mess off with AFM? Sounds like this AFM is a dumb design. The EPA is the worst thing to ever happen to the auto industry, just my 2 cents.

    Will the diesel have the urea exhaust stuff on it? I know it is causing MAJOR problems like limp mode and constant nightmare to work with. The EPA along with King Obola has decimated the auto industry with draconian rules/regulations. Being from Arkansas the entire Urea is a HUGE SCAM basically paying money for URINE from chicken farms and such. Unless one could do the delete kit on one (in the future) as I would not buy a new one being $40000 which is beyond stupid. If a truck now is $50000 and some running up to $70000+ I think the environmentalist have done their job. Like King Obola does if he cannot sign an executive order he does not enforce the law...

    Wished they had one with a diesel, 4x4 without all of the electronic dashboard stuff and no urea tank. Plus, a manual transmission. Did they ever fix the v6 that has timing chain problems???

    What is the part number for the valve cover and what tool did you use to disable the AFM? I have a 2009 Silverado 1500 4x4 with the 5.3 iron block. Can someone please post the how-to or info and part numbers? thanks

    I have a 2009 Silverado 5.3 AFM non-flex fuel engine - with 27,000 miles on it. I believe it has an iron block (what code is the aluminum block), I have not check the oil nor kept an eye on consumption. Is it by the vin number? Is this across the board on iron or aluminum block? Is the defect the piston/rings but the bore is true/straight correct ? I am going to start monitoring mine, since it is now 4 years old and the warranty only goes for 5 years/100,000 miles on the PT right?

    Wow... kinda hope I dont end up there... or if I do, its in the next 6 months before my powertrain warr runs out I had an 2003 with 225,000 miles and never had any engine problems, my 2009 is 1/2 the truck in build quaility. I am going to find a clean late model 2000-2006 model and ditch the 2009.

    So is the AFM the root cause of all of the oil burning/loss woes??? I had 2 previous 5.3 both NON-AFM engines, what the heck changed??????

    So will disabling the AFM void the warranty with GM? I have a 2009 Chevrolet Z71 with the 5.3 and AFM.
