here's the handle flipped up for use. Also a shot of the cargo lights activated from the bed switch from gen5diy. Not a fan of the switch the kit provided; I'm looking for a different style switch.

Mine was finally delivered. Got it installed this evening. I also installed a cargo light switch while back there. Also installed a set of oem led tail lights that I picked up super cheap from a customer at work that removed his bed to install a flatbed (no pics of them installed).

The Custom gets a little more custom with new seats
Sonders replied to Sonders's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Got the headrest bent back a little and put back in the truck; fits my head perfect now with a slight back angle, instead of forward angle. I wanted to also fit some sort of lower back lumbar support between the seat cushion and leather cover while I was at it, but couldn't get anything to fit and still get the cover on. One of these days I'll swap the drivers seat out to a power seat w/ lumbar when I come across one. -
Originally bought the truck to pull our 2015 Keystone Passport Ultralite Grand Touring 24' bunkhouse. Yes the camper is half ton towable, but I wanted to be able to pull it with ease, so went with 3/4 ton. That lasted a year. This weekend the wife and I pulled home a new bigger camper. Brought home a 2018 Keystone Hideout 28' bunkhouse. Wanted more room for when the kids have friends come along. Truck pulled the new camper home and it felt the same as pulling our old camper. So now have 2 campers sitting in the driveway for the time being. First pic is our old camper from last year camping, get a glimpse of the truck in pic. 2nd pic is from Saturday as we pulled in the driveway with the new camper.

The Custom gets a little more custom with new seats

oh and my great deal was a little disheartened when I realized that there were no covers for the jump seat. So unfortunately it's still black cloth. Trying to figure out something for it. I've not seen anywhere to order just a leather cover for jump seat only. I was a little surprised by how little the carpet covers on the floor and none at all on back wall. I probably could have added more sound deadening while seats where out, but really the truck is really quiet inside the cab as it is, so I left it alone. -
well, had a very productive weekend. Came across a set of OEM grey leather replacement seat covers from one of our vendors at work. $200 for the set, I couldn't pass up. Started Friday evening with the rear seat. Let me tell you, the covers for the seat back storage bins.....they are a huge pain in the ass to swap out; my finger tips still hurt from fighting with the hard plastic tabs that lock the cover in place. Seats weren't all that hard to remove or install in the truck. The little plastic locking tabs in the sitting surfaces of the seat cushions are a nightmare and also hard on the fingertips. The front seats were a little tougher than the rear as there was more disassembly required, as well as more of the plastic tabs to deal with on the seat back and the seat bottom. I started with the passenger seat, and finally got into a routine on the drivers seat and it took half as long to finish. I still have to finish the front headrests, but below are some pics of the process. I've hated how the front headrest angle forward since day one of owning the truck. On long road trips, after a few hours my neck and shoulders would hurt from my head being tipped slightly forward from the dang headrest. I decided I would try to remedy this while I had the seats a part. I completely took apart the drivers seat headrest and am working on straightening the angled posts. Basically sticking the posts in my vise and slowly bending them back ever so slightly a little at a time to straighten them. I also figured while I had them apart I'd remove the metal clips that lock the headrests to the seats. Now I can pull the headrests out without having to use a screwdriver to unlock the stupid clips.

Awesome. Glad you were able to get installed. Still waiting for mine to show up.

Lasfit led custom for the 2500/3500. Anyone tried them?
Sonders replied to Pryme's topic in Modifications & Accessories
no they just have 1 big fan on them that worked fine. Granted I didn't run them for a long time though, Dale will have to report back with longer time frame update on his. -

it looks to me like the set directly from Lasfit's site that Pyrme linked in first post is a set custom designed to fit in the back of headlight housing with new dust caps. The ones Dale posted are more of a general fit unit and I know was questionable at first whether the oem dust caps would fit back on the housings with them installed. I also had the same units as Dale in my truck before converting over to oem LED's and they fit perfectly with the oem dust caps and no modifications needed. Save a little bit and go with them; you won't be disappointed. As I reported on my thread from installing the oem led's; the Lasfits in the stock halogen housings I had before, were actually brighter than the oem leds. I miss them for that reason. Only positive I get from the oem led's is the cool led drl strips. -
you can swap out to wheel with the steering wheel controls no problem, but to get them to function is a different story. I believe some activation has to be done through dealership for functionality. Also you would need to determine if you even have the pin outs in your factory harness running to the wheel to support the additional controls. I recently did a wheel swap in my truck and I had issues with cruise control and Collision Avoidance buttons not functioning. The pin outs where different on the new steering wheel plug vs the plug in my truck. Information on what is compatible between similar models is still pretty vague.

have you looked at the Anderson hitches? If you install gooseneck ball in your bed, The Anderson gooseneck to 5th wheel conversion hitch would work and can be picked up used for $500-600 range. They're lightweight also, so not bad to have sitting around vs a big bulky true 5th wheel hitch. https://andersenhitches.com/product/ultimate-connection/

I love the south....but....I do have a few issues with it!
Sonders replied to Jettech1's topic in The Off-Topic Bar
we camped at Oak Mountain State Park in Alabama last March a few days for spring break on our way down to Gulf Shores. We got to the campground kind of late, so it was basically set up camp and go to bed. Needless to say we were all surprised when we woke up to a blanket of yellow pollen on EVERYTHING. I think I took my truck to a carwash twice while we camped there. We got some heavy rain while at Gulf Shores that washed the camper off as well haha. -
I did a google search the other night and was able to find another website that had the handle/bracket a little bit cheaper. Ordered and waiting for it to arrive. Guess I can go ahead and find some M8-1.25 captured nuts and a bolt while I wait.
-
I’d just take the threaded bracket to store and find correct nuts that thread onto it. The bolt for the third hole is probably a 10mm. That seems to be the common go to small bolt size on misc items on these trucks.

cargo light housing and 5th wheel plug removal from bed

Awesome, thank you Gayle. Figured it had to be something simple I was just overlooking. -
Adding 12v/usb power to rear of console
Sonders replied to Sonders's topic in Modifications & Accessories
yes that is it Matt. I actually ordered it off Ebay, but yes same one. The USB/12V ports came from Amazon. I kept looking for something that was flush mount and looked closer to oem, but didn't find anything. The ones I got actually had a plate they supposed to be inserted into, and then screwed into place. I elected to ditch the plate and flush mount the 2 ports directly into my console for a cleaner install. Also, up until this weekend my front 12v plug was always on from factory which didn't bother me as only thing ever plugged in to it was a phone charger. While completing this install I figured I'd better change it over to switched power in case my kids left something plugged in in the back seat and ended up with a dead battery. I'm sure about everyone on this site has seen how to do that, but in case you haven't, it's as simple as removing the fuse panel cover on passenger side of dash and moving 50 amp fuse over 1 spot. -
I bought a wiring light switch kit to turn on the cargo lights from the truck bed from Gen5diy. I was going to install it this weekend but couldn't figure out how to pull the 5th wheel wiring plug or cargo light from the bed to get access to their wiring harnesses. I used a trim tool to try popping them out, but had no luck. I didn't want to pry too hard and break anything so I stopped and thought I'd check here for any tips. Tried a Youtube search but didn't come up with anything either. Thanks in advance for an replies.

Adding 12v/usb power to rear of console
Sonders replied to Sonders's topic in Modifications & Accessories
install only took about an hour. Hardest part was fishing the wires under the carpet. My wire tool kept hitting the ductwork and binding up. Our long road trips will be much more pleasant now without the kids constantly wanting stuff plugged in up front. We got to the point where we were running an extension cord from the front 120v outlet up front, to the back so they could plug in (yes janky I know, but it worked). Now they can simply plug in themselves in the back. This is one install I'm glad I was able to get completed. Such a simple, yet missed accessory missed on the Custom model. -
Adding 12v/usb power to rear of console

I've owned my 22' Custom for a little over a year now and have constantly had to listen to complaints from my kids over not having any power in the backseat for them to charge any of their electronics. I've been searching on here for quite some time for a how to add power, but never came up with anything. This weekend I took matters into my own hands and made it happen. I found a adapter plug w/ wire pigtail that plugs into the oem 12v outlet in the dash, and a set of aftermarket usb and 12v plugs. Started out by removing the lower dash trim panel. 1 7mm bolt on drivers side and 4 metal clips hold it on, and pulls off. There is a 2nd trim panel that pulls straight out that is held on by I think 6 metal clips. This step can be done 1 of 2 ways; 1st is remove the 12v plug from the dash, which I was unable to get it to release. 2nd way (way I went) was to completely remove the radio/thermostat control panel to gain access. Used a non-marring trim tool and popped the silver trim piece off and then removed 6 torx screws to pull the panel off. Once panel was removed I simply unplugged the factory 12v harness plug, and plugged in the adapter with new 12v power lead wires. I then ran a red and white wire from the dash, under the carpet in the center hump, back to the jump seat. Once I had the wire back to the jumpseat, I moved to the backseat area and popped the back panel of jumpseat off. This is done by using trim tool to pop the side panels off first, then the center panel pops off as well. With the panel removed, I fished my wires up through the jumpseat and out the back and added my quick connects to the ends. I then marked the holes to cut out for my 2 new plugs on the center panel and cut both holes out. The 2 plugs where then installed. I plugged the new usb and 12v plugs in to make sure they worked before buttoning everything back up. Once confirmed, All trim panels were put back in place and good to go. Please excuse the dirty truck, haven't attempted to clean it with it being cold.
-
Dave I'd say you're good to go. Probably says doesn't fit because it wasn't spec'd for your trim level. I just put a leather wrapped wheel in my truck that said wouldn't fit, but it's in there and working. Hell you've got the threaded hole so you're a step ahead of me.
-
yep, checked and I can have my son with his long skinny arm and hand stick his arm up in the bedside from below. If or when I get around to ordering one, I'll have him reach up there with a nut while I run bolt through on the inside of bed.

Jon, I'm gonna need you to leave your camper installed and go ahead and send that handle my way. hahaha.
