Need Advice Please

First of all, "thank you" to all of you for this forum! I wish I could give back as much knowledge as I have gained reading these pages.

 

2002 Tahoe 4X4 with 80,000 miles.

I just had the rear axle rebuilt (all bearings and seals) two days ago. Reason was because of differential "whine" while on acceleration. Not too bad, but I wanted to address the issue before it became un-fixable. Within 100 miles of driving, I now notice a whine between 45-50 while OFF acceleration! It is not too loud and only lasts from 50 to 45 while slowing down then is quiet again. Every other speed is fine.

 

Should I just live with it considering they had to set-up a R&P with 80,000 miles on them? Or, did they set pre-load or something wrong and I should go back and make them re-do it? The shop is reputable in my area. They do 10 or 12 gear set-ups per month. (same technician) The shop owner said that the noise was due to wear on the R&P and they probably can't get it perfect without new gears.

 

What would you do?
