Transmission Fluid

Recommended Posts

Finally ordered a new pan and got it last week. Now I will be able to use the drain bolt. In the past ive had my mechanic service the transmission for me.. I have 107,000 miles and am thinking about switching to a synthetic fluid. Have the filter changed and top off with the new fluid and take the bolt out every so many miles and keep adding synthetic to it.. Good idea to switch to it or not ? Brand ? what type ? 2001 5.3 Z71..

Thanks in advance

Go with the new GM Dexron V1. Its in 2006 and newer transmissions and is backwards compatible with older transmission. Most of the synthetics are now labled multi-vehicle and are not made for any one trans.

You can get the dexron V1 in synthetic, Valvoline and castrol both have it.

I was using Mobil 1 in my truck and the wife's Buick. This summer I changed them both to dexron V1 and they shift smoother and better than with the Mobil 1.

Just my humble opinion.
