First Rear End, Now 4wd

 Couple of months ago, I had my rear end fixed, and the truck ran great. Today it snowed here, so i put it into 4wd and it is not running right. The 4wd is noisy, and it is not smooth, it feels like its going in and out of 4wd as i am driving. The 4wd was perfect before it went into the garage. My question is, could the mechanics put wrong gears in the rear end? On the work order it says 373 gears installed, which my truck had.
