Transfer Case Exchange?

I have a 2004 chevy duramax diesel and the transfer case went out. I want to know if anyone out there knows if a transfer case out of a 2006 duramax will fit?

I believe it will depend on the RPO code. A case from that year will fit provided the codes match. I believe the choices for the cases will be:

 

NVG 149-NP3

NVG 246-NP8

NVG 261-NP2

NVG 263-NP1

 

This is just the info that I pulled from the eSI program. I'm sure someone here with more knowledge can chime in and correct me or be more specific. The 4 things in bold are the RPO codes for the cases. This is what you'd look for on the glovebox sticker.

yes. Just note that one from a 3500 will fit but will have a bigger (and noisier) chain.
