Windshield Wipers

so my windshield wipers seem to work when they want to... just so happens they dont want to work only when its raining.

 

sometimes when they arnt working it sounds like the motors are trying to move them but arnt.

would this be faulty windshield wiper motors? or possibly wiring?

 

any info would be appreciated

Could be a stripped gear but check for a ground issue as I know the 88-95's had issues with teh ground lead to the wiper motor, not sure about a 98.

Could be that your linkage is worn and bound up. I replaced the wiper motor on my 92 about what seems like a dozen years ago and it still works fine. Before that, it was intermitent with it's operation.
