Deal finally complete!

Greetings Group,

Today I finally put my money down and ordered my truck!

'03 Pewter 2500HD/SLT/4X4/Crew/SB/DMAX/Allison

I would like to thank everybody for all the informative posts about the many different topics.  I was told that it's going to take between 8-12 weeks before I will see the truck so I have some time to compile my list of add-ons.

Anybody have any input about what to do first?

Headers, Tires & Rims, Suspension, Juice, Bed cover, other?

Thanks again!!

Congrats!  :D  I think you're one of the first members with the new front end.

Anyway, I suggest getting tires as your first mod to replace those scrawny 245 Firestone's.  Then look up the process here on cranking up your torsion bars to level it out.

From there, simple mods like cat-back, cold air kit, and other bolt-on performance enhancements.

Congrats ehart!

You're gonna love your new DMAX...whatta truck  :;):

You'll find that the more mods you make, the more you will want...it's a sickness, really, to take a perfectly good stock 42k-plus truck and sink several more thousand into it in modifications...Yep, I'm a sicko alright, but ya gotta love the results!

To give you an idea, my truck had only 36 miles on it when I put on the 285's, then I had to get those AR Atlas rims, then the Ranchos, then the stereo needed a SERIOUS upgrade, then the bedliner and toolbox, then the nerfs, then those Ranch Hands, then the Juice, then the gauges, then the Banks..........???? :)  See what I mean? It really can and WILL get out of hand...yikes, I need help!

Best of luck to you... :;):

I just got an order number from GMC (no TPW yet) and can't stop drooling on the keyboard.  Can't wait to take a picture with my younger brother (2001 Ford PSD) and older brother (2002 Dodge CTD) and myself with my 2003 GMC 2500HD D/A Crew Cab SLT Long Box overshadowing all... :P

I was torn betwen the new Marine Blue and Polo Green.  Quite a few poeple I know have blue trucks, but nothing like that new Marine Blue - that's a pretty color.  I chose the Polo Green Metallic bacause I like it, it's dark, and no one I know has a green truck...

Got the GMC SLT 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab, Long box, towing package, etc...

Gotta love that dual climate control.  Cold air for me, hot air for the wife!

Thanks for all the kind words!  I am looking forward to being a more active member on this board.

I had no idea that choosing the color would be such a hard decision.  Since the dealer where I ordered my truck had dozens of '03 trucks with all the colors, I spend a considerable amount on time looking at every color until "brain lock" settled in.

It finally came down to the Marine Blue or Pewter. I used to have a Toyota T100 4X4 that was the same color blue and I started to remember how difficult it was to keep it clean. As most of us are aware, Dark colors look the best when clean...

Since I have become much more conservative the past several years and I do not wish to spend my weekends cleaning my truck, so I picked Pewter. (several trucks on my block are white so that was not an option).

Here we go...

Sierra 2500HD/SLT/Crew/Short Bed/4X4/Dmax

Allison 5 Speed

Congrats!  You will LOVE Pewter.

Id get a tonneau cover and step rails and the like at first.  I plan on waiting till 1000 miles or so and letting it get settled in before I start adding performance extras to mine.

My thought is if something terrible is going to happen (not everything is perfect) it would shake out early.  1000 miles wil give me a month to hammer it and bounce it around in pure stock form.

Of course, to each his own!

Randy,

Nice pictures and Good luck with your new truck!

I came very close to ordering a Chevy but stayed with the GMC.  Like every new model re-design, I unsually do not like the changes, but after a couple months, the new look grows on me and I become a fan.  The new Chevy front ends are starting to look very nice to me.

What performance addons are you going to install first? I have been looking at the 4" Stainless Monster Exhaust from BANKSPOWER.COM?  If you know of any performance web sites, please feel free to send my way.

Right now Im looking at gauges, exhaust, and air filter around Christmas time.

The Juice seems to work well but there are a few other places poppingup that are doing ECM programming.  Before I go with a box I might wait to see what Banks comes out with. (no ETA on the Banks chip though)

Kennedy Diesel has a 4" exhaust as well as Banks.  Kennedy seems to have awesome service from what Ive read on the boards, but Banks is closeby.

I debated hard between the GMC and the Chevy, and it basically came down to I could get a redbook deal at the Chevy dealer.

Goodluck on the truck!  It seems to be the GMC version of what I got option wise.  Guaranteed you will love it!

On some board where he pays to advertise maybe... or the posts by his "salesmen", but not the real story from what I've heard and know.

HEADS UP!

I've heard of many problem with the Kennedy exhaust and seen some firsthand. Some customers of his even posted the problems but most of the posts were later edited, deleted or burried, to hide the truth about problems with the exhaust or other Kennedy products. I kept copies of a few of the posts and if anyone would like to read them, email me at [email protected]

I put one up here

My recommendation, Stay away from Kennedy and Go Banks! or any other exhaust.

I am sure the KD salesmen will try to put their usual spin on this, or attack me again, but it won't hide the truth, and only show thier character.

Hi all,

Yesterday I went down and ordered my new Chevy.  It's a 2003 Silverado LS 2500HD in Dark Carmine Red.  It's coming with the 8.1L big block and the 6-speed manual.  It will have the polished wheels, snow plow prep, trailering equipment, locking rear diff and some other options.  I'm pretty fired up and can't wait to get it in.  Once I get the Sales Order Number, is there any way I can track its build progress myself?  Also, is there anything else I should get from my dealer to track it?

Thanks,

Vinnie

Greetings Vinnie,

Have you found anything out about tracking your new truck through the build process?  If so, please post!  I have been wondering the same thing..

Eric

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
