Release Fuel Pressure '03 Silverado

I'm replacing the fuel filter & the fuel pressure regulator on my 5.3L '03 Silverado. Everything that I have found tells me to relieve the fuel pressure prior to disconnecting the fuel line from the filter or removing the pressure regulator. I am having a difficult time finding a credible way to relieve the pressure.

 

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I would rather not get a face full of gas while battling the near 100 degree weather.

You could use a pressure gauge to relieve it, or stick something in the test port(be careful of fuel spray!). But, when I change fuel pumps and filters I crank the truck up and pull the fuel pump relay and wait till it shuts off. This relieves all the pressure, and you can now safely take the filter loose, but be careful as fuel may still come out the filter when you take it off! I've did many and I've never had any catch fire.

In the under hood electrical center on driver's side.

I've replaced my fuel filter many times and all I do is take the fuel cap off. No problems so far.
