Surge brakes

Recommended Posts

I forgot to mention, the trailer that I am towing has surge brakes.  I'm wondering if the weight distribution hitch will still allow the brakes to work properly.  I will not be using any sway contollers with this because I did see a footnote in a catalog that these(sway contollers) CANNOT be used with surge brakes but can the weight distribution hitch still be used is the question.  Thanks.

That is a very good question...  Just guessing, I would say it would reduce the effectiveness of the braking, but probably wouldn't overcome it completely.

I'd talk to a couple of boat/RV dealers to get the best answer.

Yeah, not sure about that one, but it would seem that if something is heavy enough for surge brakes, it shouldnt interfere with the weight distibution setup! Better check around?!

It seems to me that each setup would be different. If the bars are chained extra tight then I believe it would reduce the performance of the surge brakes considerably. Take it out on an empty parking lot and give it a try.

I certainly would test and try it out if I decided to go with it, the only problem is its a $500.00 test.... ???
