Found this message on the Silverado forum:

found this comment on a transmission repair shop's web page (drwtransmission.com):

'General Motors 4L60E Preventive Maintenance Tip

The pressure regulator boost valve and it's sleeve should be replaced every 40,000 miles to avoid major damage that occurs when accumulated wear in the boost

sleeve causes insufficient pressure to be made available in reverse. We are seeing too many major repairs of the 4L60E at around 50,000 plus miles being traced to

this boost valve and sleeve. The valve and sleeve can be replaced easily during a routine service of the transmission at an additional cost of around $50.00. This

should be considered a must do maintenance procedure on the 4L60E. '

This may be the source of the problem that many have been complaining about.

Hey Markeaux.....  I heard this one too.  I thought that it was perhaps the sales pitch (you know...like the chap that tries to sell you a new air filter & PCV valve every time he changes your oil).

I am interested to hear what the experts on this site have to say about it!  It sounds like a legitimate maintenance concern...maybe.

It's one of those "might as well while you're at it" deals.

I think this is another ploy by someone to get you to go out and un buy something you really don't need.. It's like saying well my motor has 16,000 on it now if I put a new one in it will last longer.  Sure it will but screw that I run this one into the ground first. :thumb:

My 4L60E croaked with 52K miles.  If you're going to own this truck off warranty, it's a heckava gamble not to spend the $50.  A used tranny with fluids was "only" $800, and it's a good thing I'm r&r ing it myself, as the dealer wanted $900+ labor!

My trucks out of warranty, 97K on the truck and just about 70K on the tranny.  So you guys think I should go for it and change it out?  It's only $50 so no big deal for me, but it should be easy for me to change myself while I've got the pan off right?

It sounds accessible, based on the shop add-on charge.

Aren't there any DIY websites/writeups for this stuff over here like on CorvetteForum?  e pics, etc.?

Re "should I do it or not gamble,"  why is it that the 4L60E hangs in there for lots of miles on the C5 up to around 400 rwhp?  And we play with the programming too (line pressure, shift duration, shift points, TCC lockup, etc.).

Are there heavier parts inside?
