I received my AutoCal and am getting going on reading the factory tunes and will datalog tonight. I just have some questions for people that use AutoCal and what works best for them. I have a 2010 6.2 6 speed NHT.

I copied the factory ECM and TCM last night and downloaded to my computer. I was surprised at how small the files were (2050 kb), and the fact that they both were the exact same size. Is the right? I will datalog tonight and see no issues with that.

Once the files are on my computer, is it best to delete them from the AutoCal to free up memory? Or, do you keep you stock tunes on the AutoCal at all times? I was wondering about the stock tune files and dealer visits - if I keep the AutoCal in my truck and something happens and I need to bring it in for warranty, then I could just download the stock files....

If the stock tunes and modified tunes once recieved are stored on my computer, no matter what happens at the dealer (if a modified tune is overwritten), I could just retrieve them from the "tune file" folder and download back in to the ECM / TCM so there is no issue of losing stock or modified tune files as long as I have no computer issues or atleast have them backed up?

I noticed the AutoCal in the menu has several numbered Program catagories? Is that where the 3 files of choice would reside once I get going? To start with I'm guessing it would be the new tune files that I would program in, and then once in the truck I could load the stock files and just carry the AutoCal in the truck...

Sorry - lots of questions but just want to ensure I'm doing it right and also want to learn as I go. I also got the impression that all the downloaded EFI Live software is really overkill and is mainly used just to transfer data back and forth, and maybe to look at file data if desired? Not sure on that one.

I appreciate the help, and would welcome suggestions on what others have found work best to manage your AutoCal! Thanks.

I dont have the autocal, but i believe your assumptions are correct. I would just leave the stock programming in the autocal and store it in the truck somewhere if you ever would need/want to change the tune.

First off, the tunes you took out can not be put back in until Justin puts them thru EFI, since its married to yout truck. Be sure to save the stock tunes he sends back, those are the ones you will use to restore the stock tunes.

I put in my modified tunes with auto cal, then deleted them from it. I keep my stock tunes in auto cal, in case it has to go to the dealer. I think out cal will hold three tunes.

Use EFI expolorer to load and unload your auto cal tunes. I believe the tunes go in the "tunes" folder in auto cal.

You WILL be pleased! I am for sure!

Thanks for the help. That is what I was kind of "guessing", but hate to guess when doing things like this and also want to understand it better.

So, I'm thinking I can have my stock and modified tunes in my "tune" folder on my computer, keep those backed up with a flashdrive, etc, and not have to worry. Then just keep or load whichever tunes are needed onto the AutoCal and flash the ECM/TCM if needed. I will do as you did and load the modified tunes, then delete them from the AutoCal and download the stock tunes and then carry the AutoCal in my truck.

I appreciate your help, and hopefully anyone else with good ideas, tips, or things they have learned will add to this post to help me out.

I had a Diablo for about 20K miles on my 07 6.0, and then ran it about 12K miles on my current 6.2, so can't wait to see how it runs with the BlackBear Tune!

Thanks.

A word of advice:

I keep all the tunes Justin has sent me stored on my hotmail account. That way I can access them from virtually anywhere and have a decent backup. I also store them on my home and work computer. But the accesibilty of my hotmail account is very handy.

i just sent mine into justin yesterday. i am planning on keeping the factory tune on the hand held in the truck in case i need it while i am on the road for some reason.

I'm thinking about ordering the AutoCal from Justin too and have had the same questions. If it can store three tunes, why couldn't I just keep two of the custom tunes and my stock tune on the AutoCal at all times? Why would I delete the stock from the AutoCal? I plan on keeping the autocal in the truck at all times, and don't ever plan on using three custom tunes in one ride.

My other question is- what is the process once I get the AutoCal? From what I have been reading, is this correct?

1. I get the AutoCal from Justin

2. I plug it into the OBDII and datalog for about a 30 minute drive

3. I upload that information and send it to Justin

4. He creates my custom tunes and emails them back to me

5. I load them onto the AutoCal

6. Plug the AutoCal into my OBDII and choose which tune I want

7. Done?

Thanks!

Just got done doing mine. You have the process down right. I am not the greatest with computers , but got through it with a few questions. You will be happy with it!
