What Is The Best Gps Unit For Fair Money?

Recommended Posts

I am looking to get a GPS unit. There are just too many to choose from and have too many options. I am torn between a Garmin and a Magellan. I do have AAA and it would be great when I break down to give them a better location. The same is said for trying to find a way around the traffic.

I do want a large screen so that I can see it in my old age.

Any opinions are welcome and will be duly noted.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 265WT, and I love it. Its got a big screen, has traffic avoidances, and it tells you the exit and street names rather than just telling you to turn in so many miles. My wife has a Nuvi 205 and it doesnt have any of those features. I dont care for it much. I also seem to miss my turn alot more with her 205 since Im used to hearing the exit number or street name. I cant speak for the Magellan, but I like my Garmin. Its also really easy to use.

I will say, stay away from TomTom. I dont like them and they have terrible customer service. I had a problem with my Garmin and the tech support guy sat on the phone with me for 2 hours while we worked it out. Super nice too. I wasnt on hold for 2 hours, he was working through the problem with me during that time.
