Tow Mirror Newb

I have a 2010 Silverado 1500 LT that I want to install tow mirrors on. I pull a 30' camper and the slide on mirrors just don't cut it. My current mirrors are power/heated. I've been told that I must replace them with a mirror with the same features. I've read a lot of threads about tow mirrors and I've seen that people have successfully installed mirrors with the signal and it worked even though their original mirrors didn't have it.

So, here's my questions:

1. Can anyone give me a definitive answer that the wiring harness will work with my controller if I get mirrors with a signal and the signal will function?

2. Do I need to check for anything specific when shopping for mirrors to insure the wiring harness will fit or is it standard on all for my year/make/model?

3. Any suggestions on mirrors? Koolview... etc.

I would reccomend going with factory mirrors to avoid any shakes with the glass, and for looks also. With that being said they are only available fully powered (turn signal, power, and heat) or fully manual. So you'll probably want to go with the full power ones. The only issues are with the DL3 (power folding) mirrorrs, they require programing but since you have the DL8 mirrors you'll be all set.

As far as fitment goes, just go for the 07+ new body style and you'll be good.

Like I said earlier I prefer the factory, but they are expensive if you can't find any take offs or good deals on ebay. I recently did this swap on my dad's 08 and I snagged a set of fully powered take offs that were in perfect condition for $225 vs. the $365 on other sites. As far as the Koolview's I haven't heard much bad about them, but the ebay ones are usually noticeably lower quality.

I swapped to a pair of Kool-Vue and am totally happy. Everything worked as claimed even the turn signals. I'm still happy after about 4K miles of towing an 83"X18' lowboy.

There are several threads detailing how to remove the door panels and perform the swap. Just search for the how to. The only thing I'll add is I didn't remove the panels entirely, I used a small support to hold them while I swapped the mirrors. Just allow plenty of time and go slowly on the first one. The second will take only half as much time. I did both in about 1 1/2 hours.

The Kool-Vue are exact factory replacements made in Taiwan, not China. I paid $188 for the pair with free shipping. That listing has expired but check their current prices. They periodically run unannounced 2 for 1 pricing.

Somebody's living right. The mirrors are on for the same price right now. They aren't listing them on Ebay - you must search Car Parts Wholesale store itself. An Ebay search won't find them.

What do you mean shim them ?

I'm also in the same boat. I can't decide between buying the factory ones for around 400 or the kool view ones ...

Are they actually the exact same ? or just look the exact same but cheaper materials ?

anyone order some cheap ones and have the mirrors rattle or shake down the road ?

Thanks, I'll look forward to hearing about it..

Also, anyone ever ordered these :

That's what I'm thinking of ordering .. the pair with the turn signal for $300 .. My only concern is if they seem "cheap" or if the mirrors shake going down the highway ..

Looks like the OEM equivalent is like $540 for the pair ? can anyone find them cheaper ?

That would be the OEM towing mirrors for 2007 and up with power, heat, and signal..

Thanks for the heads up ... what do you type into ebay when searching ? do you happen to have the OEM number or something to search by so I know I'm getting OEM ?

I'll keep my eyes peeled for some on here ..

Tahnks

Be sure to keep your eyes open, there are take offs available quite often on ebay and the forums as well. For around $250ish

I ended up going with these factory OEM mirrors. I liked this site because you send them your VIN# and they verify that they'll work on your vehicle before sending them out. I didn't have luck getting take off's on eBay because as soon as I'd find them, they'd already be snagged up by somebody else.

They're suppose to be delivered tomorrow, so hoping to install them this weekend!

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
