Gmpp Warranty

I am at about 35.5k miles and am seriously considering a GMPP Major Guard warranty. I put about 15k miles/yr on my truck (09 Sierra Crew Cab, 2WD, 5.3, Diamond Pearl, NAV) and plan on having it until it ceases to live. I have had minor problems with the truck so far, window molding, wierd ac temperature stuff, all fixed, nothing wrong right now except for intermittent power steering "whurring" that dealers are unable to duplicate :/

I am wondering what the incentive is to purchase this with the 5/100k powertrain still in effect. I was under the impression that the main advantage comes if you purchase a plan that extends past the 5/100k, but if that's the case why do I have to purchase it before I hit 36k? I would really appreciate some feedback here as to why it would be in my benefit to purchase this.

the 5/100 only covers mechanical issues with thr drivetrain (motor, tranmission, rearend, transfer case, etc)

it does not cover, electrical, suspension, interior/exterior panels (rust, plastic cracking, rattles), sun roof, window regulators, HVAC system, sound system, etc.

the GMPP covers basically everything bumper to bumper with the exception of wear items and a handful of minor items (window glass, scratches in paint, that kind of thing) including the mechanical.

for most people the later probably doesn't matter, however for me, with the onset of all the electronics and computers in cars today, and having had my fair share of issues with them in other vehicles, to me it's a safety net. For the $2000 it would cost me for 1 or 2 major electrical or mechanical repairs the GMPP offers me peace of mind.. ,

if I never have an issue, it's $2000 worth of never used insurance, but if I do have an issue 1 major repair and it's a wash and I'm still covered.

as my last vehicle (not a GM) had over $27,000 in warranty work done in 6 years under the service contract (yeah car was a lemon, but I didn't qualify for the lemon law as it was a lease return and I the 2nd owner) for a $32,000 vehicle, for me the $2000 purchase on the Avalanche was well worth the cost.

I bought it on my 2010 beacuse of the computers and electronics, like old-cevy--dude stated. Not sure if you have it but price out a digital climate controller, or a pcm.

A GM warranty means GM is going to fix it with GM parts and there are no "in network" repair centers that some require.

Its kind of nice to not worry about fixing major parts on your truck on top of making payments.
