Hitch Class

Does anyone know what the factory hitch is rated for? I have a 2005 2500HD CCSB with 4.10's. What class is the hitch. I am going to be towing a 6000lb boat around all summer. I know that the truck is rated for more, but I am wondering what the hitch itself is rated for.

Dollars to donuts it is at least a Class IV (4).

Class I —up to 2,000 pounds (910 kg) — light loads

Class II —up to 3,500 pounds (1,600 kg) — light loads

Class III —up to 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) — larger loads (campers, boats, etc.)

Class IV —up to 10,000 pounds (4,500 kg) — larger loads (campers, boats, etc.)

there should be a sticker on the trailer hitch that will give you the weight carrying and weight distrubiting capicity of the hitch .

The truck is 6 years old. The sticker hasn't been there for some time. Is there a code in the glove box to give a clue witch hitch was installed?

unless you have the window sticker saying wich one you have ,i would go to your gm truck dealer go to the part's dept. or service dept and ask them to run your vin number to find out which hitch you have because of your concerns that you have .

I stand corrected. The sticker was still there under a coat of undercoating paint. It said, Weight Carrying 7500 lbs-1000 lbs tongue weight and 12,000 lbs-1500 lbs tongue weight with weight distributing. So, class IV/V?

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
