My brother-in-law asked me to check his hvac while he is out of town. The truck is stuck on the defrost setting (2000 gmc sierra). Sure enough air only blows out the defrost vent. Upon inspection the belt from the crank pulley to the air conditioning is gone, disappeared I guess. I realize this is why he doesn't have cold air, but why won't the truck change to the vent position? Any help is appreciated!

I dont know the exact terms for the part but its probably broken/stripped where the door actuates to control where the air goes, at least I know that can happen on the blend door.

I have the same problem on my truck. It will eventually "click-in" about 5 mins later and change vents.
