Abs Light Came On After Vss Change Out

Recommended Posts

I had a faulty plug to my Vehicle Speed Sensor on my '96 4.3L. I changed out the sensor and the plug. Now the ABS light comes on and the ABS does not work. I find this odd because the plug was the real problem and it was flakey, meaning it would go in and out and the ABS light flaked out with the speedometer and the transmission shifting.

Anyway, when I start the truck all the lights come on and then off appropriately but when I put it in gear and get up to approximately 5 mph in either direction the ABS light comes on and I get no ABS function.

Is there a code that I will have to get cleared out? Or is there a way to "reset" the ABS on a '96? I am still stumped as to why it started this after I changed the plug but while it was flaking out it came in and out with everything else.

What usually causes trouble for the sensor ,is the bracket that holds it in will lift from rust. If sensor is not grounded and the sensor isn't lined up or seated properly,it won't read the shaft for it's information. You may have to straighten bracket if it's bent. My sensor broke it's mounting bolt when removed, had to put in new bolt with new sensor. plowking
