Rear Hatch Malfunctioning On A 2008 Gmc Denail Suv

One of my dumb ass drunk friends, decided that it was good idea to pull on the automatic rear hatch of my SUV.

 

Now when you go to open it from the lower section, it will only go about half way up, then stop and try to close itself.

 

The upper glass section still works fine and I am wondering if there is a way to fix this without paying out the ass to the dealership for a whole new rear hatch.

Have your friend pay for the repairs. I am guessing that the system thinks the door is in another position and needs to be "relearned". This is a problem that is pretty uncommon I think.
