2012 VCIM swap

Will a 2012 vcim out of a silverado work in an 08 sierra? I know the 09-10 vcims will, I'm just not sure on the 11-12's. Thanks

I don't know about a 2012, but I have a 2011 in my 08 and it works fine. The only difference started in 2011 (I believe) and the antenna on the roof went to a single wire and ours has a double wire. I just left the one disconnected. My onstar still works as does the bluetooth, but the red mirror light is slightly illuminated.

thanks for the reply, i found a few other articles on 2012 vcims and they wouldnt work? i found a 20783877 vcim last week though so everything is workin like it should. No red light since i didnt have a script with on*, just one green light and the other is off

Jackedup or PJP. im looking at trying to upgrade my VCIM from my 2009 to a 2012. so i can have the onstar mylink app on my phone found a cheap VCIM never programmed. do you have the onstar app on your phone or ever tried using it? let me know. thanks

I believe that the onstar app will only work with a subscription to onstar. I've never thought the price was worth what it provided.

Pjp you can order any onstar package and unlock the mylink. Gregg at told me its possible to upgrade but whether the onstar button still works is another subject.
