I've got a 98 sierra with a 5.7L engine. It sat for about 6 months so I threw a new battery in it and it started right up. next day just turned but not firing. Long story reduced, new fuel pump and pressure regulator good to go again. Still after heavy rain, no start. No codes so I'm thinking old school, and before I spend the $75, the only thing I come up with is distributor cap and rotor. Any thoughts?

I was thinking other ignition parts at first but when I test a wire through a sparkplug I get spark. Something is not going right with the ignition process in the first few seconds after a heavy rain and it will flood out before starting. Heavy gas smell. My thought was of older cars when moisture would get into the cap and the spark would fly around and not hit the cylinders in proper order.

Update. Since I need transportation tomorrow I decided to bite the bullet and get the cap and rotor. Changed it in the rain as it hasn't stopped for 2 days and it started up as if it were new. I guess you gotta go old school once in a while.
