Ive got a 2004 gmc sierra extended cab. It has the stock 4 speakers without onstar.

The passenger side speaker died so its time to replace. Ive read that the stock speaker is 6.5" and there is also a tweeter. My question is for anyone whos had the door panel off, can i just replace the speaker with anything thats 6 1/4 or 6 1/2 and leave the stock tweeter in place? Also are there separate wires going to the stock speaker and stock tweeter?

Any input and speaker recommendation would be appreciated.

I run Polk DXi6500's in the front door and Polk DXi460p's in the rear. They sound great and weren't that expensive. I think I paid about $225 for the 2 sets at Best Buy. The rear 4x6's are components as well as the fronts. The rears have a 4" woofer with a tweeter next to it. The fronts are a 6.5" component with separate tweeter.

Here is the front. JB weld on there because I broke the factory tweeter mount

Yes, you can replace one without the other. 6", 6 1/4", 6 1/2" are all basically the same. You wont have any issues mounting one verse the other.

Just make sure to get a 4 ohm speaker. Some companies these days are selling 2ohm speakers. They will sound better, but may cause the radio's amp to over heat and go bad.

If you like the low end sound of the factory speaker, then I would suggest buying a factory speaker, or similar. Aftermarket speakers will have better "highs" but will not have the "lows" since they will be seriously under powered.

I would go factory (or really cheap) if you are happy with the factory sound. The lower the power handling of the speaker, the better chance you'll get the lower frequencies (bass) out of them.

All depends on what you like.

Also, most major company's speakers will sound about the same since you are just using the factory radio. You wont really hear a difference.
