P0446 and retrofit evap vent valve solenoid - suburban

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I have had the P0446 code on my 2001 suburban for several years. I cleared the code for a few months by blowing all of the dust out of the vent valve, piping, and canister ( a lot of dust) but the problem is recurring due to gravel roads. It is of concern, as the gas tank doesn't seem to vent very well: if the gas cap is tight, the tank tends to "suction".

I figured I would retrofit my rectangular-style vent valve with the updated design. I have seen the TSB on this topic, so am aware there is a kit with new style vent valve with remote filter box (gm part 19207762). This post in particular seems to go into detail on all of this: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/83753-evap-vent-valve-location/

However, I have a few questions before I dive in:

1. Is there anything different about the suburban, vs. the pickups? That is, will the new round solenoid mount to the outside of the frame without troubles, etc?

2. I see that part number 25932571 will sub for the new vent valve in the above mentioned kit. However, will it substitute for my 2001?

3. Can a person obtain the new "filter box" part outside of the kit?

I do not have an answer to your question but just wanted to say that this is still a problem on 2009 Sierras. I got the same error and had the Vent Selenoid replaced under warranty in 2011. It came back after my 3 year warranty expired and I had the Kit installed. $500.00 at the dealership. I was very disappointed that they did not install the kit the first time. Seems like this is problem that should have been resolved years ago. Way to go GM. I have had several other problems since then and only have 36000 miles on my truck. ($500 Alternator replacement, Steering Groan in slow turns, Squeaky Belt, and P0128 error Shuts off AC due to engine too hot.)
