2000 Suburban 2500 Z55 conversion problems...

Yesterday I replaced my shocks and wired in the resistors to bypass the system. The truck rides and handles much better but I still have the "service ride control" light on. I removed the neg terminal and let it sit for 10 min, still comes on by the time I get to the end of my drive. Is there anything else I need to do to get the light to go out? I have the magnetic shocks, not the air ride.

I was told to unhook the neg terminal for longer than 15 min and it should help. I left it unhooked for over an hour today and it still comes on. The guy I bought the resistors from on ebay said I am the first person he has ever heard of having this problem. The light comes on after I drive 50' down my driveway. Its concrete and flat so it is not a big bump or pot hole that is causing it. I am really tired of being blinded at night by the service ride control light and I am not sure what else to replace or disconnect. I know this is a common topic, I am hoping someone on here has also used the resistors to bypass their system and can chime in. Thanks.

I figured it out. Even though I installed the resistors, I had to remove both battery cables, remove the RTD fuse, leave it sit for 7hrs then reconnect the cables.

If you're not going to use the Autoride disconnect the SCM(Suspension Control Module)which is located in the right rear quarter panel where the rear heater is located.

IMHO, those resistors are a Mickey Mouse way to disconnect the Autoride. I know they work most of the time and a lot of guys swear by them but to me, they're more trouble than they're worth.

I didn't disconnect anything and it has been fine since Jan. Does disconnecting the SCM alone bypass the system?

 

I bought the modules from DCR1005 on ebay.

@DANO123 - Who did you buy the resistors from on ebay.

 

Before you purchase the resistors I would try to disconnect both battery terminals, remove the RTD fuse and let it sit over night. Reconnect the terminals in the am and leave the RTD fuse out. I wondered if that would have shut the SRC light out on its own?

It might, but I doubt it. Once the truck is started the SCM will send info to the BCM and you'll get the good old warning light on the DIC. The system will reset once the fuse is put back into place. If you don't replace the fuse the system should detect an error.

I've never tried it that way, but in theory it should work. The Autoride system on a 2500 consists of the BCM, SCM & Body Position Sensors. This whole system monitors everything to do with the suspension movement of the truck. If the SCM detects a problem it will send the info to the BCM and you will then get a warning light on the DIC. If you completely disconnect the SCM there should be no signal or Suspension/Shock/Position Sensor info going to the BCM and you shouldn't get any warnings. Pull the plugs out of the SCM and see what happens. Otherwise you can completely remove the whole system like I did.

I did the resistors in Jan and haven't had any issues after I removed the RTD fuse. What makes me think the fuse alone may get rid of the service ride control message is mine was still on after I installed the resistors. After I disconnected both terminals, removed the rtd fuse and let it sit the SRC message stayed off. I left the fuse out. Might be worth a try, doesn't cost anything...

I found your other post since I posted here about disconnecting the battery and pulling the fuse. It worked.

Did you already install the resistors or just do the fuse/disconnect? I am curious if the resistors are really necessary?

@Dano123 - I just did the fuse disconnect and it is still working fine. No light. The reason I asked about who you bought the resistors from is that both sellers on eBay I emailed said they wouldn't work on the 3/4 ton shock damping system. They said in only works with vehicles that have the leveling system with the air compressors. I installed the Monroe Gas Magnums yesterday and all is working fine. So to answer your question the resistors were not necessary for my Suburban 2500.

Hello All.

 

I am new to this forum.  I have a 2002 Chevy K2500 Suburban 4WD with the 8.1 that I purchased new. Its the best vehicle I have ever owned. It came with Autoride which coming from my old 96 and 99 GMT400 K2500 suburbans with Rancho 9000's on them (which I loved) the Autoride was surprisingly "o.k." all things considered . Of course we are talking highway, towing and mountain corners - not hard core off road. 

 

I drove it daily til 2008 and about 90k miles. For the last 10 years or so (now 123k miles) , I have wanted to put Rancho 9000's on it but did not want to hassle with the resistors or reprogramming.  I kept putting it off. A few weeks ago I stumbled on this article and tried it. Bingo, it worked.

 

First i disconnected the SCM as described by Jacqson above. I got the check suspension light.

 

Then I took out the RTD 30 amp fuse. The light came on.

 

Then I disconnected the battery (both terminals) and left it for a couple of hours. I came back, hooked it up and everything works great. 

 

I ordered the Ranchos and installed them and things are much better, even though they seem to not be as stiff as I recall from the 96 and 99 k2500s. Back then, I never ran them on 9 as my teeth would rattle. On these, its firm, but not insanely so. Oddly, before I installed them I compressed the two rears by hand. On setting 1, I could compress them both in about 3-4 seconds. On 9, it would take 20 seconds for one but only 3 for the other.  I called Rancho and they said, put them on and see what happens. WTF?  I am going to ask for them to replace that one for sure. I am suspicious about the fronts even though when I go over speed bumps on 1 it bounces a few times before settling. On 9, it pretty much doesn't move (too) much.   I may pull them off and bench test them to be sure.

 

Regardless, I write this to confirm, this method works GREAT. I only wish I knew this before my brother in law dropped $2500 putting new Autorides on his k2500. Ouch.
