ignition switch

Good morning!

I have been told that my ignition switch is the current problem with my 99 Silverado. It is doing the following.......Sometimes when I start the truck everything works just fine, other times when I start the truck, the gauges "dance" all over the place and the wipers only work on hi and low, no intermittent settings work. I go in the store,come back out, everything works again!! Now, I priced a new switch and its like around the $200 mark (HOLY $**T). What could go wrong with the wiring harness itself?. Any suggestions before I bite the bullet and buy and install a new switch??. Furthermore, I have replaced the multi-function switch, and the entire wiper system ( I thought at first that was the problem). There must be a way to repair rather than replace the switch. Thanks!

who told you ?,,,if they do the work and it still does not fix it ,,,its on them ,,,,,not you ,,,,there is alot of diagnostics into this ,,,,i'd be carefull

It was a certified GM mechanic, He suggested that if I wanted it done, being the truck was so old and the labor would be prohibitively expensive, i would be better off doing it myself. I am capable of doing it. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar problem and how they fixed it. Thanks
