Does anybody know how to download ICQ on a new computer but keep your old number?

When you set it up, you can search for your old user number, I think. I did it, but don't remember exactly how.

I cannoit seem to get into it now. I have a buddy comming over the week to set up a lan so I can transfer some files. I am going to try to transfer that program as well.

I think what you have to do is download it, run the program to install it, when it asks for a username I thought there was an option to put in your number for and existing account. ???

Did your list of friends for lack of a better word come back or did you have to re enter it?

I don't remember for sure, but I think you may have to reload them. If you have their account number, you can just search for them and add them pretty quickly.

after the install is finshed it will ask you if you are a new or existing user. enter your # and password. depending which version of ICQ you had before you may or may not have your user list there. newer versions of ICQ store your list on their servers. older ones stored it all in certain .dat files.

What I do is copy the ICQ dir from the old computer and install on top of that. You will have to put your number in but you will not lose your list of friends...
