Bench Seat won't stay latched/locked

I just bought a 1992 c1500 extended cab, and I'm having trouble getting the front passenger (I have the 60/40 bench) to lock like it's suppossed to. Its the design that doesn't have any external latch or control, you just push forward gently for the seat to come forward.

The seat isn't locking in the upright position where it will stay in place during a sudden jolt. I can feel the metal latch on the bottom corner of the seat and can move it with my fingers. The seat will then seem to lock initially, but won't stay locked as it should. The driver side is fine, only the passenger side is having this issue.

I'd really like to not fling my passenger around anymore than necessary (especially since she's pregnant) so if I can get tips on troubleshooting this problem I'd appreciate it.

Not much anyone can do for you unfortunately , you'll have to either remove the seat and inspect the mechanism or wrench your neck looking under it in place ....

So removing it is my suggestion

I've seen some reference to just drilling a hole and using a hitch pin to keep the seat locked without counting on the mechanism. That maybe the route I go.
