2002 z71 creaks when dry but....

the topic title says it all....i have a 2002 z71 regular cab, and when its dry outside (or when the truck is dry), a creaking noise is heard when braking - it comes from outside the cab, and can sometimes be heard from all around...its very annoying...

 

my guess is its the rubber bushings at the upper/lower arms, and the bushings at the leaf springs...I think when the asphalt is wet, the tires spray water on the bushings, and they dont creak anymore, but when the bushings are dry they creak quite a bit...

 

any other guesses? what should i use to lubricate these points? is it normally necessary to lubricate these points?

I can't really help you on this one b/c mine doesn't creak, but I'd spray some WD-40 on a few things if I were you.  Spray on the bushings, take it for a test drive, if it still does it, spray it on the upper/lower arms or whatever you think it may be.  If it's a '02, i assume its still under warranty, maybe the dealer could help you out.

I know this topic is old, but I have been having the same problem with my 04 rcsb. the rear passenger side bushing has been creaking, I tried lubricating it, but the creak returns. So I decided to buy a 12"x12" teflon sheet with a thickness of 1/32" to create a washer that can be installed between the body and the body mount's upper steal cup. This should solve the problem. I bought the teflon sheet from Mcmastercarr for $6.50. It looks very robust and should last for a while.

I still havent fixed my creak yet....thanks for posting - im going to try spraying between the body and the upper steel mount to see if that temporarily fixes my problem...
