Sounds Like A Firetruck

Ok here is a good one, my truck has recently started to sound like a firetruck.

When you rev the engine or drive down the road it sounds like a giant wind noise like he radiator fan is really pulling air. Sometimes it happens when you first start and drive the truck for a little ways then it may go away, other times it just stays and doesn't appear to go away.

When you jump on it it makes a really lound fan noise and seems like performance is down.

My truck has a body lift and the other day I saw that the temperature guage was climbing up so I figured it was because the shroud was not tight any move because of the lift. I took the shroud off and glued foam to it and put it back on to make a better seal. This seems to have worked for the temparature but that fan noise is still there before and after.

Is it a fan clutch? Had something like this happen to me on a small blazer.

Is it in the tranny?

I have the 99 new body style 5.3L z71.

Sounds a lot like a fan clutch problem. Starting to seize up. Not only do they make a lot of noise at high RPM, they suck an amazing amount of HP too.

Fan clutch. It could be a problem, or simply due to the increase in ambient temps in your area.

Thanks for the info. I had this happen to me on a 91 s10 Blazer and it sounded that same but I want to be sure that was it. Right now it is interminent but you are right about sucking the horse power.

Any reason why it would seize? Wear and tear? I guess probably normal for over 80,000 miles and probably a gazillion rotations.
