It's possibly going nowhere but it never hurts, especially seeing how the UN is trying to push a ban on small arms (categorized as many pistols, both revolver and semi auto, and rifles) owned by millions of Americans.

Read this and sign it if you're interested.

I have been saying the same thing for years, and I ain't that old. The UN is pure evil and we need to kick their butts out. I'll sign it. :smash:

And I just like to see them try to come and take our guns away and invade our soverginity...there would be a lot of blood-stained baby blue clothing lying around I can tell you that. :D

You think the US should leave the UN, eh? Yeah, I guess what global stability we have left is getting to be a pain in the ass.

The last time I checked,we ARE the globabl stability.

It's pretty sad when the vast majority of their equipment and funding comes from the United States and they won't even support us when we feel action is necessary. That could have had something to do with their little oil for food scheme though.

Now that was a model project for humanitarian aid. :smash:

The UN is not about unconditional support. And if the U.S. can't convince anyone that there is good enough reason to take certain action, then there isn't good enough reason.

No,it's more like when Hussein is promised that he gets X amount of money for the program as long as he buys a certain amount of his goods from countries of interest, which of course are those selected by the UN.

He absolutely corrupted the OFF program and the proof is everywhere.Warehouses full of rotting food were found as were items he had that he was not supposed to possess. The United States just imposed a 2 year ban of imports into the county on Norinco of China for supplying Iraq with banned equipment. The only person not suffering during that program was Hussein and his minions. The UN knew it but couldn't have cared less and they proved it time and time again ie:Allowing massacres of Kurds and Shiite Muslims under Saddam's regime and the repeated expulsion of UN inspectors.

Now,let's talk about the relevancy of the UN:Recently,Kofi Anan asked for immediate help from all allies (read, the United States physically and financially) for an apparent crisis in Africa. It wasn't bad enough that France had already gone in without a UN resolution but now they expect us to clean up their mess, again. As I recall,we were already in Africa once and the UN provided little to no help.Does Mogadishu ring a bell?

It's an absolute double standard. They are nothing more than a puppet organization and are basically under the control of the European Union who will do nothing but look out for their own interests and not those of people worldwide, much less those who need help within their own countries. They haven't accomplished any major feat in who knows how long and if they had allowed the coalition (mostly US and English forces) to finish the job in 1991,we wouldn't have just gone through what we did because the problem would have already been taken care of.

It's kind of hard to convince countries that have been breaking the law under our noses to agree to a millitary action that will result in full disclosure of the facts.

Which countries are members of the UN Human Rights Committee? Who's on the Nuclear Disarmanant Committee? How many resolutions did Iraq flagrantly violate without any recourse whatsoever?

And we're supposed to believe the UN is an effective organization???

The UN has many faults, not enforcing many of their own rules being the biggest. HOWEVER, we cannot afford to leave the UN and I'm sure we won't, the UN is much more than a military enity, it helps to regulate the world economy which we are integrated into wholly. The UN no matter its faults serves many purposes, most of which we cannot afford to lose.
