2016 5.3L P0300 Random Misfire

The truck: A brand new 2016 Silverado 5.3L that I've owned for 18 hours, total of 181 miles on the odometer.

I drove the truck about 10 miles this morning, and as I go to accelerate I feel a slight hesitation (actually I felt this hesitation a little yesterday as I drove it home) I hear two loud back fires, followed by flashing checking engine light and loss of power. I slow down and come to a stop, and the engine died. It started back up, the check engine light stayed on. On Star says is code P0300.

Has anyone seen this code on the newer 5.3L? If so, what did it take to fix it?

Drive to the dealership and swap it! Is there a cooling off period in your contract?

Would love to. The midnight edition trucks are not that easy to get and they don't have any that I would trade for it in that price range.

Maybe they can ship one to your dealer?

Not on a 5.3 but my wife's Buick had a persistent random misfire. It ended up being the fuel pump not having high enough pressure for the DI injectors.

Still a bummer to not even get through 24 hours. I'd try and do a swap too...

I'm calling first thing in the morning. I even located an identical truck a couple hundred miles away at another dealershil, just need to see about getting them swapped. I would hope they oblige without much prodding.

Turns out at least part of the problem was collapsed / stuck lifter(s). They reset the ecm/computer and it seems to be working fine now, but they still want to check it out for damage. Meanwhile I have a call into GM, and I'm supposed to speak with someone tomorrow that will be able to determine if I'm eligible for a new truck.

Good luck and keep us posted. I'd push for a new one. Not a great start with this one and few hundred miles is an easy tow for them or go get it yourself.

Yea, not a great start at all. This truck has already been in the shop nearly twice as long as I've had it in my possession, and they say they won't even be able to get to it until late next week because of their backlog. So I'm looking at being without it for THREE weeks as their best guess. I feel certain GM will do the right thing and let me exchange it. I just can't believe they would be ok with this.

The dealership ended up buying it back and bringing in a new midnight edition to swap it out. Picked it up today in fact. This one had quite a bit of upgrades and I ended up paying a little more for it, but it drives MUCH better than the other first one. Transmission shifts smooth, no issues with V4 mode, no engine hesitation, etc.

Now to decide on the lift and how best to get rid of the stock wheels and duratracs...

Also getting an emissions system failure as well as the traction control light stuck on. Could those be related?
