Radio went out

Whats up everybody,

I was just wondering if any of you guys had a problem with your radio in ur Silverados yet. Mines a brand new 03 and I got it with the Bose stereo and all, but like 2 days ago, the functions on the radio all work fine and stuff, but the sound just wasn't coming through the speakers. I took it into the dealer and they're just gonna swap a new one in for me tomorrow. The service manager said they've been doing tests, and it could be from me playing burned CDs in it, because the encoding of the burned CDs scrambles the commands of the radio or something. I don't know about you guys, but I'm gonna be pretty bummed if I can't play my burned CDs.

You've gotta be kidding me :) They will tell you anything at a dealership, just so they won't have to admit that they don't know.

Same with mine a while back. One night the radio stopped, cd's wouldn't work, and onstar wouldn't work. The devices came on but no sound out of the speakers. Rode to work and after 10 hrs got back in and everything was fine and has been since for a few months. I was listening exclusively to cd's at that time with a few burnt ones, but I agree that it sounds like a load of $hit.

That sounds like a big load of crap to me.

If it wasn't for the "burned" CDs, maybe its because...

You don't used Genuine GM parts/oil.

You drove 57 in a 55 mph zone once.

You had someone other that the stealership change your oil

...or even worse, you (GASP!) did it YOURSELF!

Mine did this just the other night while I was on vacation. When I got in it the next morning it worked fine.:flag::flag:

It would have sucked to drive for 5 hours with no tunes.

BTW - I play burned cd's in mine too and think the stealer is feeding you a load of BS about that being the problem!

I hope this is not another "Houston we have a problem" deal!

Say, the first time I took my truck in for the defective ac pressure switch I mentioned a radio problem that sounds just like yours. They said there was a buliten and new software for the computer.

My theory is it is the door chimes. Mine has only done it after I open the door with the key in the ignition. I do use burner CDs but only on long trips. It has never gone from burned CD to not working.

I understand from a friend who just bought a Lexus SUV that the dealer told her she can't play burned music in her vehicle. She tried it, and it won't play burned tracks.. I haven't tried it myself, but that's hard to believe. Who knows... maybe they're cracking down on the music "stealing." ANyone else heard of anything like this on GM or Japanese models?

lol While some CD players my not be able to read a burned CD (like the lexus mentioned) The discs themselves are not able to cause physical damage or send weird codes to the player by being played. Although my dodge I traded in would play like the first 6 tracks on a burnded CD then just lock up. If turned off then turned back on or ejected and inserted a normal disc it functioned just fine. Sounds like they are just grasping at straws here.

mine just did the same thing take it to a different dealer.

It has nothing to do with playing burned cd's mine did it 5 min.

after I left the lot. There is a TSB about it they need to update the computer software.

What really pisses me off is that if they know there is a problem and there are

trucks with the problem siting on the lot why not just fix them now instead of having to bring the truck back later for warranty.

They don't fix them on the lot because they want to see your "pleasant" face again, and try to sell you something worthless. For the reason why the radio won't work at times...who knows, maybe they have some software notification device that sees it's a burnt disc and then shuts off the speakers to punish you....gm must get kickbacks from the music industry
