Hypertech Programmer 87?

I'm thinking of buying an 1998 Hypertech Power Programmer from someone that's selling it used for a little under 200...sounds pretty good to me I think. But I want to be 100% sure that you can use 87 gas with it.? I think it can be programmed for 87 or 91/93? With gas prices now I can't really consider going to 91/93. Anyone know?

 

What kind of results have you had using one? I'm looking to put it on my 350 5.7 on an ext. cab truck with 3.42 gears (and gonna be getting 285/75/16's soon probably).

You can run 87 but you are going to get major pinging.. my brothers truck as a hypertech in it and if he doesnt run atleast 89 it sounds like someone is beating on the headers with a hammer...

is it real bad then? really annoying? only at Wide Open Throttle? Any other suggestions than Hypertech (I'd love Westers but can't spend that kind of $$ right now).

A lot depends on where you live as to the quality and type of gas you are getting. I live in the Memphis, TN. area and had no problem running 87 octane in my '96 tahoe 5.7.

 

I now have a '02 1500 HD. 6.0L and the Hypertech program works fine also with 87 octane.

I usually buy gas at BP around here...I think their gas is pretty good.
